Kirstie Warren's Simply Wed wedding planning service is top notch. She is very well organized, has impeccable taste and knows how to get things done efficiently, calmly and inexpensively. I would think that most brides would be grateful to have a calm, professional and enthusiastic partner in planning their wedding, a major stress event. If I were ever to get married, I would certainly use her. She helped me plan a small soiree some time ago and it rocked.

My dog Hitchcock has been going to the Downtown Dog Lounge since he was a pup. If I have company coming and I need hime to work out his dog energy, her gets a day there. If I am having a party where there are people coming and going, he gets the evening there. It's clean and friendly but a but overpriced. He always comes back happy and often lets out a howl when we drive by.

I like my happy hours on Fridays. This can (and does) lead to some rough Saturday mornings. Hunger that will not be satisfied by a grapefruit or a leftover chicken breast. I need massive amounts of salty, greasy food. I don't want to order from a menu or deal with a waitress. I want a coke and a pitcher of water, stat! Take the trip to Shoreline to the Super China Buffet on Aurora by that mall with the Sears. The food is shockingly good for a buffet. The restaurant is fairly nice and the lighting is just low enough that I can cruise in there with my baseball cap and unwashed hair.

The aptly named Deluxe Junk, located in the heart of Fremont is a second hand store serving up vintage matchbooks and postcards alongside retro furniture, dial telephones and the kind of fondue pots you would have seen in The Ice Storm. All the stuff is in great condition and reasonably priced. I kind of look at it as a free museum and gift shop compiled into one. The wave of the future perhaps?

I like modern art. Since the Bellevue Art Museum has turned from a smart place to experience contemporary art into a craft gallery skewed at older woman, the best place to see modern art in the Henry Art Gallery at University of Washington. The work is challenging, sometimes uneven (as modern art often is) and often involves the visitor as a participant rather than just a viewer. More amusement park than museum but I kind of like that. Parking majorly sucks.

Located at the bottom of Queen Anne, Uptown Cinemas is my kind of movie theater. Shag carpet, those cool ticket windows facing the street, greasy popcorn and comfortable chairs. They play good movies and somehow, when I depart, I don't have that sinking feeling that somehow I have paid for Tom Cruise's dental work or had a part in facilitating Jennifer Lopez's continued and unwelcome presence on America's consciousness. Also, if you are careful, you can sneak in a couple of burger from Dick's, located conveniently across the street.

Fairly lame review title, but they cannot all be winners. I love the fact that Seattle has, arguably, the coolest and hippest library in the world. That I qualified a library as an attraction says a lot. Rem Koolhaas' spectacular design is mesmerizing. It stands out in a cityscape of bland glass and concrete. Friends want to visit when they venture to Seattle. And, unlike the Space Needle, which I will no longer accompany friends or family to, I enjoy going to (and providing commentary for) again and again. If you know someone who has a fear of heights, you must take them to the third floor. You will laugh your ass off as I have.

Oh wait, that's Safeway's slogan from the 1980's and this is Saveway. Trust me, the "v" makes a big difference. I hate to rag on this place, because the Korean family that runs this Pioneer Square grocer put their lives on the line everyday to keep this place open - literally. And they are lovely people. But WOW! This is one filthy store. On the plus side, along with my Cheeto's, beef jerky and tic tacs, I can also pick from a varied selection of malt liquors and score crack easier than June Pointer.
