Stay away from Day!
Wednesday, September 07, 2005
I visited Dr. Day at the Western Arthritis Clinic for help with arthritis symptoms that I had for several years. Other doctors had treated me with respect and helped me to find treatments that eased the pain and made it possible for me to function. However, my condition didn't fall into any specific categories of arthritis. So I visited Dr. Day because I was told he's a great diagnostician.
Too bad nobody told me he ran a weight loss clinic, too. This was my worst doctor experience ever! Dr. Day attributed all of my health problems to weight (when the other specialists I saw specifically told me that weight was not the cause). He was demeaning, rude, and dismissive. I believe his involvement with the Colorado Center for Weight Management makes it impossible for him to treat a larger person without attributing everything to size.
He made no efforts to assist me with a true diagnosis and did not even want to treat me unless I agreed to work with his weight loss clinic. Later I heard from a family member that he had been rude and disrespectful to others as well (not weight related, just in general). This guy should really think about why he got into medicine in the first place. I don't think he's ever heard of the phrase "first do no harm."
Although my specific experience of size discrimination may not apply to everyone reading this, I encourage you to think twice about seeing a doctor who can treat human beings with such disrespect and low esteem.
