If you're looking for the latest in digital projectors and surround sound and a monster screen then North Bend Theatre isn't for you. However, if you'd be happy to take the family to the movie where you'll probably see someone you know or you need the magic of a crying room because your little one is a little too tired, then get thee to the movies.
The theatre shows first-run movies, sometimes longer than they should thanks to distributor deals, mostly to satisfy the Upper Snoqualmie Valley residents that pack the place most nights.
If you really want a taste of the small town life check out the periodic film festivals or fund raisers.

We had high expectations for our new patio since we have a friend who works for the state concrete association, but we had no idea how great the patio would turn out.
The guys from Kenwest showed up on time, were hardly disruptive at all (or at least as non-disruptive as you can be when you're breaking up an old patio with a sledge hammer), and kept the job site clean.
They recommended a pattern for the stamped concrete patio we wound up with based on our location and the style of our house. They even suggested changing the color to make it blend with our back yard a little better.
The end result is a spectacular new living space that actually looks like stone rather than concrete.
Best of all, they were the least expensive contractor of all we talked with!

The Lost Mitten is full to the brim gently used kids clothes/gear and maternity clothes. I always seem to find some great name brand goodies for my girls there in really great shape. Gymboree leggings, robeez, and baby Gap just to name a few. Go when you have some time because they have a lot to go through. The kids usually play with the toys while I am looking around and the owners are great about it.

Anne Malmo is an agent in the Bellevue office of Windermere. On TV all agents really care about what you're looking for in your next house, but in reality it's just not the case.
Anne helped us buy our first house even though we were outside her normal market in both area and price. She was tireless in showing us places and even told us that we couldn't buy this house or that house in spite of our interest. As a result, we found a killer house on the river rather than being stuck in a subdivision.
We decided to use a local agent to sell that house and buy a new one and that was a mistake. Not that the agent we found was bad, but after Anne nobody would have been good enough.

Quilting by the Sea is a great little quilt shop where I always find fun new novelty prints. Their selection of kid fabrics is amazing. They are also a Janome dealer and all of my quilting friend from Seattle have gone over there to get their new machines since they have the best deals in Washington and Oregon. They also have rentable space over the shop for your own quilters retreat. Check out their website for more information.

This is a great small fabric store that is filled to the brim with great fabrics. Their collection of asian prints is one of the best on the eastside and I am always in awe of the quantity of flannels they are able to have on hand. It is the place I always head when I am looking for coordinating fabrics for my next quilt project. My only regret is their classroom space is limited due to the location and they are lacking evening classes.

Linds Jewelry in Langley (on Whidbey Island) boasts only a small in-store selection to browse, but tons of items available through mail order. (This shouldn't be a surprise since Linds caters mostly to the locals in Langley as opposed to the other jewelers who primarily service tourists.)
What sets Linds apart is their customer service. Walk in and they virtually strip off your jewelry so it can be cleaned. They're more interested in understanding what you're looking for and making you happy than making a sale.
When they misquoted a price to me by several hundred dollars they didn't hesitate to honor the quote and even helped deliver the secret purchase to my wife after the birth of our daughter.

Looking for high-end quilting fabric or expert help? How about classes to teach you basic quilting skills or advanced patterns? As long as it has to do with quilting you can't do better than Quiltworks Northwest in Bellevue.
The fabric supply isn't amazingly large, but what's missing is the lesser fabrics you don't really want anyway.
There's a classroom in the back where classes are held by published quilters.
Keep an eye out for the annual sale and get a bonus discount if you show up in your pajamas!
(And guys, at least during the sale they've got a TV in front of a couch so it's not all that bad even if your wife makes you wear your pajamas to get that discount, too.)

The Pizza Place has one of the least creative names of any pizza place ever, but perhaps the best calzones anywhere.
The calzones are big enough to feed two without a problem so either go hungry or have a spot in your fridge for left-overs.
The PIzza Place delivers as well as hosting by the table or the room and their drivers are good enough to find even those houses way down dirt roads at the base of the mountains. Rumor has it they'll even deliver to trailheads, but no guarantee on that.

The chili is almost nothing but spicy meat, but that's what real chili is all about. The burgers are pretty good and the grilled cheese sandwich is good enough to satisfy a picky two year-old.
Skip the bar and sit in the back where you can look out over the water and maybe you'll see a whale.
