Sushi was disappointing here. Not well rolled at all and big to the point of being unappealing.

I'm not a fan of bbq but even I like Rockland's. BBQ expert friends tell me it's the best in the area, and I can't get enough of their home-cooking sides. Choose from chicken, beef, or pork sandwiches and platters as well as daily specials for the main course, or get a sides assortment with options like mac and cheese, texas pudding, mashed potatoes, and beans. A little pricey for a quick lunch, but the large portions are a great deal for dinner. 3 locations, in Alexandria, Ballston, and Georgetown/Glover Park.

I went to Rio Grande without knowing anything about it. I don't eat Mexican often, so I'm no expert, but the food was tasty and fresh. Supposedly they are known for their margaritas, and they didn't disappoint. However, the service was slow and though the staff was friendly, it took several requests to get things like soda refills. The menu was also a little on the pricey side and several things, like sour cream for fajitas, are a la carte.

Salon Acqua opened in the spring but it is already giving first-class service to the Ballston community. This salon offers everything from cut and color to manicures and waxing. I've tried the cuts, color, and waxing. The proprietor, Johnny, did a great job on my cut and gave me helpful recommendations for styling. Though my waxing was done quickly in between someone else's manicure, it was effective and painless. The color, however, I would skip. I felt my hair was unnatural looking and hard to maintain after getting highlights. However, the staff is extremely friendly and accomodating, and it is recommended for any other service.

Almost every DC-area resident will complain that there's no good pizza, but Two Amys is the exception. Aside from appetizers and some specials, the menu is almost entirely pizza but there are lots of options and it always comes out crispy and fresh and not too greasy. Everything is big enough to share, so it's a good (3rd or 4th) date place. There's also a full wine list with some great selections.

Tuckers is in an old inn overlooking the bay, and the view from the indoor or outdoor patio at sunset is enough the provide a great dining experience in itself, but the food is just as spectacular. Tuckers offers a unique but not overwhelming menu with lots of veal, beef, and seafood options. Everything is fresh as can be and the sauces and sides all perfectly compliment the main dishes. On top of all that, the service was top notch.

While Chopsticks offers tasty sushi and a nice presentation, the ambience leaves something to be desired. The inside is tiny, with only 6 or 7 small tables. The staff spoke such poor English that it was difficult to get our order across, and once they understood us they were extremely unaccomodating (no refills on drinks, no sushi made to order, no combining items, ie: 3 cucumber and 3 avocado rolls instead of 6 of one or the other). And despite the lack of customer service or atmosphere, a meal for 2 without alcohol was still almost $50. My companion and I both enjoyed our food, but we decided next time we'd go up the street to Sushi-Ko.
