Long-time family business, honest to a fault, always cheaper than everyone else, quality work. Much needed in this day and age when insurance pays for nothing!

Superbly made-by-scratch cakes are always available at Wegmans, many themed for holidays. You can also call up and order one decorated to spec in any size, available quickly. While you are there, the breads are also wonderful. Get there at noon on a Saturday and take home a warm jalapeno cheese bread. They bake on a schedule so you can ask when the best time to come in for certain things just as they come out of the oven.

Excellent variety of fresh and sometimes exotic seafood, a large selection of oysters from all over the world for the connoisseur and slightly quirky side dishes and appetizers like garlic mash, beets, creamed spinach, crab dip and sardines make this Nassau Seafood offshoot a dining treat. It's BYOB so you don't need to worry about spending your whole budget on wine. The decor is simple, complimented by exposed brick walls. The outdoor dining is less glamorous and sits on the main road but is outdoors nonetheless. It's a little loud for a date but suitable for fiends and couples on a night out. Call ahead or you'll never get in on a weekend but do go, it's worth every penny.

Ash's is a funny place. A sprawling nursery visible from route 95s just before the Pa border, it is wonderful for the variety of colors for each type of flower they carry rather than the depth of selection which is really the point of Ash's. They are open very early in the spring offering wonderful pansies and don't close until late autumn. In addition to small plants, they have trees, grasses and pots - again not noted for depth of selection. Prices are a little high but if you are worried that your local nursey won't have 10 flats of your favorite petunia, Ash's will and you don't have to worry that you're helping Home Depot put the family folks out of business. If you want something a little more unusual like a selection of 10 varieties of fuschia, try Mazur's on Baker's Basin Road in Lawrence. Ash's also offers a large selection of reasonably priced pre-planted hanging baskets and pots if DIY is not your thing but you'd like to tart up your front stoop or deck.

The third or fourth restaurant in this former bowling alley, Triumph Brewery follows in the footsteps if it predecessor, Maritas Cantina, as a loud, fun place for students and the younger, single crowd. If this is not you, I would go once to try the beer and mediocre food, then probably decide that once was enough. The food is not too badly priced but the mixed drinks are expensive.

The Tap room has been through several iterations over the years and has now shed it's raucous 80s club flavor for the historic place it is and should be. One wall is covered with the largest Normal Rockwell painting in the world. There is a huge old fireplace at the bar end which makes for a cozy place to enjoy the best cheeseburger in town or a chicken pot pie on a cold night. Depending on your point og view, the bar end is either ameliorated or denigrated by television screens including one that is huge but for me it adds up to a great place to enjoy confort food and Monday night football. And that is the reason to go.

Mediterra has to be taken as a whole - the food is good but not great, not cheap but not expensive, fun atmosphere and decor but it can be a little loud, especially when they have live music. It's one of the few places with pleasant outdoor dining in Princeton. It's also one of the only places in town that will attempt to make a Mohito while you wait for your table! This adds up to a great evening out, if you can get in.

On a hot summer night the line goes down the street but the wait is well worth it. Try the ice cream plain or sample a blend in comprising your favorite flavor and a choice of additions - like sweet cream with heath bar. Even the low carb stuff is good.
