Save Yourself for that Special Night ...

Wednesday, December 28, 2005
At first, Veil seems one of those overly hip and trendy spots that is misplaced -- a round peg in the square hole that has been the lower east side of Queen Anne. I'm hopeful that it will garner enough of a following and repeat interest to stay, but it will have to work hard to find its market and get them to return time and again. In short, its a delightful experience -- high end food and vino, beautiful presentation, and after only having been open a couple of weeks, they seemed to have most of the beginning bugs worked out. Ultimately, though, I'll make a stop in only when I have a special occasion to do so, as the cost of dining there is on par with some of the pricier options in the city. Portions are moderately sized but sufficient, and glass pours are standard (four-and-a-half ounces). The night we went, the ambiance was one of exclusivity, and you felt like you were somewhere along Rodeo Drive. If you have the wherewithal and insist on trying all the new Seattle joints, then by all means (and I mean, "all means") go ahead.
