Moxie has all the right components to become a new standby on Lower Queen Anne. The chef/owner duo cut their teeth at Matt's and Chez Shea, and have brought some of the better qualities of both those eateries to Moxie.
The standard menu looked good (we tried a prix fixe on New Years Eve), and the wine list is solid. Service was great, and the decor of the place gives one a sense of intimacy without being stuffy. Although moderately priced for a white table cloth style dining experience, it would be easy to spend more than you planned. Regardless, its a great date place.
Moxie is in the right place at the right time, and will definitely appeal to the theater crowd. Although its been easy to get a table early on, I suspect that evenings before highbrow events at the Seattle Center will be busy. Plan a dinner after eight or on off-nights if you don't make reservations.

Bricco seems to have gotten off to a stellar start. It is reasonably priced, the menu is well constructed, and whatever shortcomings one might find will no doubt be worked out in short order. Four of us shared a meat and cheese plate, and two of the party ordered dinner including a gorgeous salad and a panino. Aside from some over roasted nuts, it was flawless, timed perfectly, and well presented.
While I'd hoped for a slightly broader glass pour selection, the list as a whole is great. The emphasis on Europeans is helpful at a time when the overly extracted new world stuff seems to be crowding Seattle's menus, and there are a couple of items that you wont find anywhere else in Seattle.
If you go on a popular night, then be prepared to shed the fleece -- the smallish place combined with a close kitchen gets a little steamy. There apparently are plans to get that worked out, but dress in layers or go on cold night until then. If you go on a weekend, be aware that it only seats 18 in the dining area, and the bar becomes pretty close quarters. I suspect that as good as Bricco is, we'll all be willing to wait our turn to get a seat ...

At first, Veil seems one of those overly hip and trendy spots that is misplaced -- a round peg in the square hole that has been the lower east side of Queen Anne. I'm hopeful that it will garner enough of a following and repeat interest to stay, but it will have to work hard to find its market and get them to return time and again.
In short, its a delightful experience -- high end food and vino, beautiful presentation, and after only having been open a couple of weeks, they seemed to have most of the beginning bugs worked out. Ultimately, though, I'll make a stop in only when I have a special occasion to do so, as the cost of dining there is on par with some of the pricier options in the city.
Portions are moderately sized but sufficient, and glass pours are standard (four-and-a-half ounces). The night we went, the ambiance was one of exclusivity, and you felt like you were somewhere along Rodeo Drive. If you have the wherewithal and insist on trying all the new Seattle joints, then by all means (and I mean, "all means") go ahead.

Wanda does an amazing job -- she's got a keen eye for composition and has a great portfolio. "Toss the Bouquet" represents her dedicated efforts for wedding photography, and she really seems to capture a lot where other photographers end up just documenting the ceremony.
Wanda is also on top of her business affairs, and is able willing to travel for out-of-town events.

Tucked in behind Diablo Coffee on upper Queen Anne, these guys are a great alternative to the megacorp booksellers you can find anywhere. I've never had an issue not being able to get a book I expected to be in stock, and in fact, these bookworks are every bit as good as Nancy Pearl for recommending other titles they think you'll be interested in. Particularly good current events section and a great neighborhood anchor. Good visiting author circuit, too.

A music fanatic with seriously eclectic tastes turned me on to Sonic Boom right after they opened, and it renewed my interest in buying CDs. These guys have an amazing selection and do a pretty good job of stocking the stuff that's currently hot.
I haven't sold back any discs in a long time, but these guys also used to have an awesome buy-back policy, where you could get any new CD off the rack if you turned in five used
If you remember and liked Orpheum on Broadway, you'll love these guys..

This place has been on the top of Queen Anne under a couple of different names -- but thank goodness, the equipment and calzone recipes haven't changed. If you like your calzone with a doughy crust, and stuffed full of some of the best baked mozzarella and tomato sauce you can imagine, then you'll make the same habit I have and start coming here more than my doctor says I should ...
The portions are generous. Despite your urge to do otherwise, I'll encourage you to take a long walk after dinner.
Pizza and salads are OK, and the wine selection is wanting, but there's always a decent rotating draft tap and sodas as alternatives.

Seattle is a dearth of same-day dry-cleaning sites, except for the gang at F&W. These guys are always the first to let you know if there's any clothing cleaning task they can't handle, or better, what it will take to get the job done. Out of six dry cleaners in my local neighborhood, I go out of my way to take my clothes to these guys.

Ever wonder what a basball cut looks like? Still trying to figure out where sirloin comes from? These guys will not only guide you through the maze of butchery, they'll tell you everything you need to know to prepare it perfectly. Great source of cuts of beef, pork, and even specialty game. One of the best butchers in Seattle, and paired perfectly with a seafood and wine shop right in the same building. If you live in QA, Fremont, or Magnolia, its worth getting it here.

This Broadway boutique does a great job servicing the goth and fetish clothing genres. You can get everything from thigh-high fishnets and Catholic girl skirts, to platform shoes and body jewlery bold enough to send Mom into a conniption fit. This place gets busy at Halloween with those of us that don't scene, but is otherwise a great place to go in for accessories and gear appropo for the lifestyle. Fun to stop in and see what the kids are wearing these days.
