You can spend hours in Kepler's, browsing their extensive magazine collection (they have a lot of McSweeney's which is great), or finding a great new book to read as recommended by their staff. Or you can come for one of the many talks sponsored by the store (though it can get incredibly crowded when its someone really famous). The staff is friendly and always willing to help you find or order a book for you.

Cook's Seafood is a local institution that sells fresh fish that you can eat there (they prepare it for you in a myriad of ways) or you can take it home and do it yourself. The fish is very fresh and the variety varies with the seasons. The fried halibut that I had recently was very tasty and not greasy and over breaded. Just perfect. I once inquired about shipping some crab across the country and they were very helpful and willing to accommodate my needs.

Want quick, cheap good Mexican? Of course you do! The name Mextogo may sound like a chain, but its not. Its a family restaurant that sells awesomely tasty burritos that are filling but don't make bad later. Their horchata is awesome, nice and cinnamony. And they have this mysterious orange hot sauce sitting on the counter that is really tasty.
Ah, now I want some....

Palo Alto can be a bit of a trendy, shishi place. So its nice that there is a laid back, british bar to hang out at. The Rose and Crown has entertainment many nights of the week, a comedy night, jazz and the best night of the week--quiz night. Come with four friends and compete in the weekly pub quiz. If your team wins a round, you win a round of beer. If you can win the entire quiz--free fish dinner for four! Its hard to win though, lots of regulars, and geeky stanford students. :)

Juut is an expensive, yet worthy place to get a really good haircut. It is an Aveda salon and their stylists are friendly and well trained. I specifically asked for a stylist that knew how to work with curly hair and Louise did a great job of giving me a cut that worked with my hair. Expensive, but better than paying for a cheaper haircut and being disappointed. I'm going back.

If you are looking for a 'European style' café where you can sit outdoors for hours, watch the people go by and drink coffee this is the place for you. Cafe Borrone also offers great selections of desserts (love the ginger cookies) and sandwiches. Also serves breakfast food. Only downside is that it can get very busy, and so you might have to wait for an outside table during peak lunch hours.
