Rittenhouse Square's More Sedate Eastern Neighbor
Friday, August 19, 2005
Washington Square park is located near Independence Park and is one of 5 original town squares planned in Philadelphia (of which Rittenhouse Square is another). Due to its location in Society Hill and the proximity to Independence Park, Washington Square is mostly free of the homeless population who sleeps all day long in Rittenhouse Square. It is also a little further from the shopping and restaurants of the Rittenhouse area but is conveniently near Old City and the historic district. Its benches are a good place to relax with a coffee on the weekend or have a brown bag lunch if you work in the area. It also features the memorials of Revolutionary War soldiers.
