The lunchtime vegetarian buffet here is definitely worth a visit - there's this cauliflower dish with something orange (yams? sweet potatoes?) and tahini (I think) that I have to stop myself from going back for 4th helpings. It's really good. For the most part the rest of the buffet is good, some have called it bland but I find it to be perfectly acceptable.

I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about when it comes to Agua Verde - sure, the views are great and the margaritas are good, but the food leaves something to be desired. I found the tortillas to be... rather raw and mealy, and the fillings of several tacos I've had there has been rather bland and uninspiring. Some people loooove Agua Verde, but it gets a pass in my book.

Pegasus isn't quite in Seattle - you'll have to take a 35 minute ferry ride to get to Bainbridge Island - but this coffee is worth it. It's roasted on the island and is simply sublime. There's the added bonus, of course, of a beautiful view of Seattle from the ferry on the return trip - the only way to see the "Fraiser view"!

The cupcakes are Cupcake Royale are pretty much perfect - a harmonious blend of cake and frosting creates a wonderful cupcake experience. Try the lavender frosting. I know it sounds weird, but it's really good. After you try it you too will be converted to the Cult of Lavender.
My only complaint is that after a sweet cupcake, the coffee is almost too bitter - better to stick with a glass of water or drink the coffee first.

The Mix is really a UDistrict staple. They now accept cash or husky card, a recent development in the last year or two. The mix offers 6 or so flavors of ice cream and perhaps 30 or 40 different mix-ins. It's cheaper and better than Coldstone Creamery, and also locally owned. Coupons for two free mix-ins (a $1.20 value) are available in the Survival Kit booklets at the Ubookstore at the beginning of every quarter or on the Survival Kit website. They also have gift certificates - a great present idea for a UW student.

Oh my GOD, the smoked jalepeno cream cheese is AMAZING. Order it spread on a toasted bagel and you will not be sorry. Perfectly savory, smoky, and creamy all at once paired with the chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside bagels... it's heaven with a hole in the middle. The bagels are a tad on the pricey side, but worth every penny. Yum yum.

This is a lovely locally-owned bakery and cafe. The room upstairs is perfect for a weekend lunch. Try the pesto tortellini salad and the sandwiches - they're really good. The coffee is decent, but the coconut macaroons are really something. Waterfront Bakery shares a building with Heart, the clothing store, but they are separated by the staircase.

The groceries at PCC tend to be on the pricey side, but it's hard to beat the selection of organic produce and other organic groceries. During the holiday season, they offer several different types of turkey - one fully organic, one free-range, and one conventional. The prices at Trader Joe's are more reasonable, but the large selection of produce makes a visit to PCC worthwhile.

The Neo-Futurists are, simply put, amazing. From entering the theatre (up the stairs, through the kitchen, and then into the state park) to getting your nametag (never with your actual name on it - I was "beatbox") to the actual show, the whole experience is fabulous. They have a great mix of the political and pop-cult, the irreverent and serious. Truly great.

Yet another fairly typical ceramics painting studio, though Paint the Town has the added entertainment benefit of being the one where nannies from affluent familes and over-controlling stay at home moms take the preschool set on weekday mornings and afternoons. They do have some lovely big mugs, perfect for coffee on Saturday mornings. The price is similar to other ceramics painting studios, but UPASS holders get 10% off.
