A great local bookstore, they have a really wide selection, and if they don't have it, they're more than happy to order it for you. With their location in Watchung Plaza, and the train station, they are convenient to all parts of town. They'll often have authors (especially local ones!) come in a do a book reading or signing, so be on the look out if that's something that interests you.

Montclair pediatrics has been around for over 25 years. Dr. Rigtrup is one of the most personable, caring doctors you'll find anywhere. The bedside manner of Dr. Paisner leaves something to be desired, but he seems to have a good head on his shoulders regarding what's best for the kids. The huge fish tank in the waiting room is ever popular with the kiddies.

The sandwiches and baked goods at the black sheep are amazing. I love the foul play sandwich, but every time I go in I have a hard time deciding between all the delicious options. It's a good place to try something new, because everything tastes good! All the bakery items are great, and the bread is baked fresh - I just can't resist the cookies they have by the register. However, I don't really like the drink options (mostly natural or organic) so sometimes I buy a beverage elsewhere to have with my sandwich.

Even though I don't live in Amherst anymore, whenever I can, I make the trip just to get a Burrito. It's well worth the drive, as they've figured out how to perfect flavor the meet and assemble the burrito in the tender tortillas so that everything fits without exploding. I find their salsa to be a little bit watery, but others like it because you can poor it into the burrito and have it mix among the ingredients.

Antonio's has the most creative pizza toppings I've ever seen. I mean if someone were to suggest taco pizza to me, I might otherwise rebuff the idea, but at Antonio's, it's down right delicious. If you go once you have to go twice because you'll want to try all the different options. It's a small shop, so it can get a little crowded, especially late nights on weekends, so go at an off time so you can take your time deciding between all the slices!

Atkins farms is a great place to go for a special shopping treat. The prices might be slightly high and selection slightly low to do your everyday grocery shopping, but don't let that deter you. The food here is amazing - the homemade donuts are to die for, as is the fresh fruit and selection of treats available at the bakery counter. You're always bound to find something you don't need, but can't do without here!

slightly removed from Amherst's campus, this is like any college town liquor store. There's enough beer (selection and quantity) to keep everyone happy on a weekend night, and even a college kid could find wine to have a romantic dinner with a date, but I wouldn't rely on the staff to help you pick out a drink to serve with a particular meal when you're having company.

For poor people (like me) the opportunity for a $10 haircut is something that sometimes just can't be passes up. I guess the way I look at it though I own enough hats that even if something goes wrong, I can cover it up until it grows out. I have friends who swear by it, and wouldn't go anywhere else - but then again, one of those friends has fire engine red hair, so what does she know?

I like to explore Raven's on a rainy day. There are a ton of titles at cheap prices, and most people like to just wander in and browse around for a while. While their sister store in Northampton is a little bit bigger, the one in Amherst has plenty to offer. I never go in with the intention of buying anything, but without fail I always find a few books of interest that I find hard to resist.

a book collective in the amazing college town of Amherst, food for thought is a great place to catch up on the latest reads, or find something new at someone else's suggestion. I like to visit whenever I find myself falling into the trap of reading the same type of book over and over, and try to discover a new author or genre.
