Dr. Bansil has a tremendous rapour with kids and was a joy to work with. She calmed down my terribly squeamish guys and got them to cooperate with all of her vision testing, including pupil dilation drops. I was amazed that she was able to calm them down and actually got them to do what she needed them to do. Dr. Bansil is certainly more expensive than the mall eye doctor, and worth every penny.

Dr. Nigrelle and his 7 steps to dental health will stop your gums from bleeding and your teeth from decaying. With his 7 steps once a day, and normal brushing at the other brushing opportunity, you will learn to remove plaque completely from your mouth and stop tooth decay in its tracks. He is wonderful at crowns and root canals if you need them. He also is very competent with kids—my 5 and 8 year olds are flossing and stim-u-denting their teeth daily, and NO cavities!

We’ve been taking our kids to Virginia Mason Sand Point Pediatrics for the past 8 years and have only ever had wonderful kind caring experiences at the hands of the very skilled pediatricians and nurses there. We see our primary physician for the yearly checkups but see any doc in the group for sick visits. We’ve always gotten appointments within an hour or two of calling when we have a sick child, and the consulting nurse line has been invaluable.

I brought my Honda Civic to High Road for its 60K mile tuneup. They faxed me an estimate for $5600. They detected seepage from the head gasket so they proposed to not only replace the head gasket, but do the rings as well because the new head gasket would cause the rings to fail due to the new pressure on them. They also wanted to do the timing belt, alternator, water pump, and replace the hole where the oil drain plug screwed into the oil pan. You name it, they wanted to fix/replace/repair it with little or no regard to what the car actually needed. Long story short, I did not let High Road do the work, and my Honda Civic now has 124K miles on it, and the head gasket still seeps coolant, but the engine is still humming along with standard maintenance from Clinton Auto. I understand preventative maintenance, but this was ridiculous.

Every time I go to RE-PC I always find the parts I’m looking for from old sleds for hard drives to cables to keyboards and mice to full vintage Macs. The stacks of computers can be intimidating but it’s pretty easy to zero in on the parts or peripherals that you need. They’ve got recent model laser printers, inkjets, scanners, and parts parts parts. You can also drop off old monitors for a nominal fee.

The funny thing about Clinton’s Auto Repair is that Paul (the guy who runs the place) won’t do repairs that you don’t need. I brought my car in for a major service (timing belt, hoses, water pump, etc.) and the total was half what I expected to pay based on past experience with Honda Service. My car has been well taken care of and doesn’t get service it doesn’t need anymore.

I’ve been going to Recycled Cycles for years. You never know just what you’ll find there—lately I’ve been looking for the bicycle that was stolen from me last year. They have a wide selection of new and used bike gear and a competent repair shop. They are very open to giving advice and have friendly helpful staff.

We’ve sent both of our children to The Cottage School for preschool for the year before Kindergarten. Roxanne and Heather are both kind, gentle, understanding teachers who give their all to the kids. Classes are limited to 15 kids. We sent our kids Monday Wednesday and Friday from 9 til 2. Some kids go daily, some Tuesday and Thursday. They are flexible and will work with your schedule to accommodate your needs. Tuition was very reasonable.

I love the Phad Seeiew at Kwanjai. The salads are always fresh and fiery—get the squid—it’s never overcooked. The curries also run toward the flaming hot. The knock on Kwanjai is that they can be pretty liberal with the oil. I haven’t really found this to be the case. Veggies are cooked very nicely—never overdone.

Wright Brothers is both a full service bike repair shop and a co-op where you can bring your bike and use the tools and space. Classes are offered in general bike maintenance, wheel building, and bearings. The owner, Charles, is as likely to talk with you about philosophy or bike repair. Small fee for co-op membership and classes. The space is great and quick questions are answered for little or no fee.
