Enchanted Village/Wild Waves had fallen into some disrepair until Six Flags bought it a few years ago. It seemed kind of dirty and not well-run. Now, it's relatively clean (as much as you can expect of this type of place) and well-run with new rides coming every year It's still not one of the big amusement parks you'd find in other parts of the country, but it's pretty darned good for a place where you only have the chance to really operate during the summer months.
Be SURE to get a discount ticket -- either from Safeway or just by bringing in a specially marked Coke product can. Anyone who pays the full $32.99 to get in is being ripped off!

It's a little bit cramped feeling and there's a distinctive sort of musty smell from all the old books, but it's heaven on earth if you love to get lost in the stacks of old, rare and just plain neat books. If a shiny bookstore with a coffee stand is your idea of bookstore heaven, avoid this place. It will have many of the newest books, but an awful lot of its stock was printed before Barnes met Noble. They also offer top dollar for used books.

Not as big or flashy as its counterpart in Seattle, the Children's Museum of Tacoma is nevertheless worth a visit by anyone with small children to entertain. They offer free Fridays the first Friday of every month and you should avoid those like the plague -- they get so busy there is a waiting list to get in. The art station is very popular, but be careful as the paint they use does not wash out of clothing easily! In all, it's well worth the price of admission, or if you live in the area, a membership, because it keeps the kids so happy!

The food at A's is actually pretty good. Nice steaks, tasty sandwiches and a yummy breakfast selection. But the service is dependable in only one way: It's dependably bad. The interior is very old school -- you'll feel like you're stepping into a 1970s era restaurant. But if you've got lots of time and are hungry, it's not a bad place to get a bite.

If your precious darling just has to be wearing the most expensive name-brand clothing but your wallet can't oblige, this is the place for you. But if you intend to sell stuff your kids have outgrown, beware -- the buyers here are VERY picky. The prices are high, but not outragious considering the quality. Stay away from the toys and accessories -- they are terribly overpriced.

Our boys have seen Dr. Rodriguez since they were tiny babies. She always remembers them -- even when we've run into her outside the office -- and treats them in a very kind, respectful manner. She's very good at explaining things to parents and patients alike. She only works part-time, though, so you'll often see one of her colleagues if your kids are sick on one of her days off - but they are all great as well.

Why do I keep taking my kids to Fun Kuts? It isn't the price -- they seem awfully steep for the short amount of time they spend on my boys' hair. And it isn't that the cuts are perfect -- more than a few stray, uncut hairs have popped up. But I keep going because the kids love it. It's designed for kids and the stylists are all great at working with the littlest tots. I've also seen some of the stylists pretty much ignore what parents ask for -- not cool.

The stylists at Benno's are the best. They are all very talented and great at listening to what people want. My personal favorite is Laurel, but I've seen the work that they all do and it's great. The banter between the stylists, especially Laurel and manager Marco, is an absolute hoot. Laurel is sort of like Karen Walker on Will and Grace. They also offer makeup and a nail tech.

These guys aren't the cheapest, but they are the best. They will take their time to properly do the prep work needed to make your paint job last and look great. If there's a problem, they'll come back and fix it, no hassle at all. And, they're pretty easy on the eyes themselves. I've seen firsthand the difference between a quality paint job and something that gets slapped up in a day or two -- these guys are definitely a notch ahead and their prices are competitive, too!

If you need help setting up a computer network, getting your software to properly install or any other computer-related help, this is the guy to call. He's really good about fitting his work into your schedule although he is getting busier. He does work for businesses and home PC users and doesn't have the whole superior attitude that a lot of computer techs seem to have.
