The Café is open only for breakfast and lunch, but that’s all you need to experience to know how good it is. Breakfasts are very filling and delicious and are worth the journey just for that. The lines can get long so make sure you get there early or be willing to wait a few minutes. It is totally worth the wait though, so don’t get too impatient!

The portions are large here and while the service is slow, it’s worth it to wait a few minutes (15 or so) so that you can get your food. Before or after dining, enjoy the stores around on College Ave.

California’s best pizza has gained a following around the world and has even been featured in the Wall Street Journal. The pizza is worth the drive from anywhere and is prepared in Chicago deep dish or thin crust style. Seats are difficult to find, especially during Friday and Saturday nights or when UC Berkeley is in session. Slices can be ordered at lunch or you can take a half baked pizza home in the middle of the day to finish for dinner. The pizzas are very filling but totally worth getting.

“The Casa” is an Orinda institution serving customers before the Orinda Theater was built and when the Orinda crossroads was really a four way stop (for those you don’t know, it’s now a busy freeway and equally busy road intersection). The food here hasn’t changed in the generations in terms of portions or quality. The food is good down-home cooking from burgers to fried chicken to pasta. The portions are a little overwhelming and the food is rich, but worth a stop if you want a traditional dinner.

Fitz’s is a St. Louis tradition almost like it’s neighbor Blueberry Hill, but it is a newcomer to the loop. Fitz’s root beer has been being brewed for decades and can be found in the Washington, DC offices of Missouri’s senators. If you go, you must sample the root beer or other fresh brewed drinks and the rest of the food is very good but nothing special.
