I've been to Avalon a couple times -- primarily for a wax and a massage. I've always been pleased with both. I think their prices are reasonable (not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either.) They do a great job and the staff is very nice. The place is comfortable and clean and relaxing. I've walked in once -- but usually call ahead for an appointment. They rarely make you wait. The front desk people are organized and get you in shortly after you arrive. They also have other services as well -- I believe manicures/pedicures and hair cuts . . .but I've only every done the wax and massage. It's a nice sized place -- not tiny and cramped like some of the spa/salons.

My husband has been getting his hair cut here for years. He loves it mostly for the price -- you can't beat it. I would venture to say this is definately one of the least expensive haircuts in Manhattan!! The actual hair cut is a little bit hit and miss -- depending on who you get. For the most part, he is generally happy with the cuts he's gotten. He likes it because he can just walk in and get it done -- no planning ahead and making appointments. They get you in quickly with little waiting. If you have a simple style and don't mind taking a bit of a risk -- then I highly recommend trying this place. You certainly can't beat the price!!

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum is a lot of fun -- the wax statues are so real, it's incredible. People of all ages will enjoy this place -- both kids and adults. There are celebrities, politicians, historical figures -- all created with lifelike features. It is centrally located -- right in the middle of Times Square. I just wish the admission prices weren't so expensive. I've had a lot of out of town visitors who would have loved to go -- but the high prices just didn't seem worth it when there is so much else to do in New York City.

The Intredpid Sea Air Space Museum is not your run of the mill painting and sculpture place. Most New Yorkers have driven by it a million times -- it's right on the West Side Highway . . . but how many have actually taken the time to stop and go in? It is very interesting and educational. Kids would enjoy it because it is something different. Adults would enjoy it -- because they will learn something!! It is definately one of those New York places that everyone should go at least once. It is located along the Hudson River where there are walk and bike paths -- so plan time to take a stroll either before or after your visit.

I went to Dramatics NYC once and would not go back again. I went there for a reasonably priced cut and color. Although I liked my stylist and felt she did a good job -- she was not up front about the cost. She told me upfront how much the cut and color would cost -- but then made decisions to add treatments to my hair without telling me the cost. The final total ended up being almost twice what I was initially quoted. I argued with them and they did end up taking some money off the bill . . . but it was a lot of trouble. If I wanted to pay top dollar -- I would have gone to a top salon.

The New York Botanical Garden is one of my husband and my favorite places in New York City. So much so -- that we got married there!! It is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year. Go in the fall to see the beautiful leaves or in the spring to see the gorgeous flowers. It is so large -- you can easily spend an entire day there. The rose garden is one of our favorite spots. We also enjoy exporing the "wooded" area. We got married in the Snuff Mill -- which is the smaller of the wedding/reception areas. They also have weddings in the main conservatory area. The service and location was perfect -- I can't imagine getting married anywhere else!!

Dylan's Candy Bar is any child's dream . . . no matter what the age of the child (or big "adult" kid!!) They have every kind of candy that you can imagine -- and many that I remember from my childhood as well!! They can also host children's birthday parties there too. It has multi-floors of candy. My favorite is the cases and cases of m&ms -- any color you can imagine!! It is such a fun place to go . . . and the prices are fairly reasonable -- a little pricey, but you are also paying for the experience. Candy is fun and tastes good to "children" of all ages -- stop by for a visit!! A great place to bring out of town tourists as well.

This is my husband's favorite cathedral in New York City. We actually considered getting married there. Although it is more off the beaten path than say, St. Patrick's -- it is certainly worth the trip. It is a beautiful place -- both inside and out. The grounds and gardens are very peaceful as well. It seems to me that it has been under construction a lot lately -- it's been a while since we've seen it with out scaffolding . . . but it's still worth a trip. The stained glass windows are amazingly beautiful and the many small chapels are interesting as well.

Papyrus has beautiful, original cards and stationary. They also have a selection of frames and gift wrap and small knick-knack type gift items. The staff is very friendly and knowlegable about the inventory. You can always find something unique in this store. The downside is that the prices are high -- much higher, I think, than some of the other larger card stores. However, the quality of their products is high as well. A nice store to browse for something special!!

We've been to Central Park Zoo many times. While not the largest zoo in the country -- that is one of the reasons we enjoy it. You can get through the whole thing in a couple hours. The price of admission is still very reasonable. The zoo is surrounded by Central Park -- so bring a picnic lunch with you!! Our favorite spots are the penquin house (in the NYC summer, this is called the "coolest place" in the city!!) and of course the polar bears. You don't have to have kids to go to the zoo either -- my husband and I enjoy it quite often!!
