By The Sea Inn and Spa in Branford, CT is a wonderful little place to treat yourself or buy a gift certificate to treat a good friend!! I've not stayed in the Inn part -- but the Spa area is wonderful. Several friends and I went for massages and we were all very pleased. It is nice sized and comfortable and has a very relaxing atomosphere. Because it is off the beaten track a bit and not, for instance, in downtown New Haven -- that just adds to the charm. My massage was wonderful and the staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this place.

I've used Jet Cleaners several times and they've always done a good job -- no complaints. They are fast and the dry cleaning is ready when they say it will be. The store is clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly. One big pro is that they have a small parking lot onsite -- so you don't have search for parking. They are conveniently located and do good work. Their prices are very competative to the other dry cleaners in the area. I highly recommend them to anyone in New Haven -- students or locals!

I've been here a million times -- they are always open (literally -- 24 hours a day) and there always seem to be people in there!! I've had lots of items copied there as well as some binding done. They have always done great work -- no matter what the job. I think their prices are reasonable and they are conveniently located to Yale University -- so lots of college students use them as well. I believe you can also buy paper (ie. colored paper) and they have a small selection of office supplies there as well. I'd rather give my business to them than the massive chain copying places!

The Wave Gallery is one of my favorite gift shops in all of the many cities I've ever lived in. They have a wonderful selection -- you can find something appropriate for pretty much anyone. They have cards, candles, jewelry, knick-knacks, art and tons of "cutsie items." Prices are reasonable -- depending on what you buy. They do have a nice selection of items in many price ranges. Their merchandise is unique and fun -- not what you would find in a traditional chain card or gift shop. I love to shop here -- and I see something new each time! Highly recommend.

Hull's Art Supply and Framing has a nice selection in downtown New Haven. Near Yale University -- lots of the art students shop here, but many of their regulars are locals as well. They have a great selection of art supplies to fill your every need and they also have a good selection of frames and gift-type (such as cards and books) items. The service is good -- it's often busy, but if you can get a staff member, they generally know what they are talking about. Prices are a reasonable -- maybe a little higher than some of the superstores -- but then the selection is better.

Cutlers is a nice alternative to the music superstores. For their size, they have a great selection of CDs. It's not all pop and top 20 -- they have a good array of alternative as well. The store and the staff are very laid back -- but knowlegable if you ask them. It's centrally located in New Haven -- very near Yale University -- so there are always college kids in there. They've been around forever -- so locals shop there too. Prices are competative and fair.

If you need a fancy dress for a special occasion -- this is the place to go. It's a small shop with a nice selection of dresses for it's size. The dresses are upscale and so are the prices. I've "window shopped" in here many times and have seen tons of dresses that l love -- but they are all out of my price range. They do occasionally have sales. The staff is hit or miss -- sometimes they are helpful, sometimes not. If you want something a step above the department stores -- this is the place to go for that special dress.

The Yale Cabaret is part of the well-known Yale Drama School. It is located in the basement of one of the Yale Buildings. They do a wide variety of productions -- from musicals to new plays. Most of the actors come from the School of Drama -- so the acting is usually top quality. It is more of a dinner theatre with tables and chairs as opposed to traditional seating. Drinks and food are reasonably priced and good. The downside is that it can be crowded and sometimes warm -- but if you're looking for something different -- try it. They do quite a few production throughout the year and admission is very reasonably priced.

Nothing fancy and it's very small. If you're looking to be pampered in a large, extravagent beauty salon -- this is not the place. If you're looking for a good cut and style at reasonable prices by very nice people -- then this is the place for you. The salon is small and crowded -- but the service and people make up for it!!

Distinctive Floral Designs did the flowers for our wedding. They were absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this company for a wedding or other special occasion. The flowers were wonderful and the staff was a pleasure to work with. They really listened to us and seemed to understand the look we were going for. DFD has reasonable to moderately high prices. I must say, we were on a tight budget and they were so good about working with us and helping us find choices that would keep costs down. I highly recommend this company -- they did a wonderful job and I would choose them again in a heartbeat!!
