This flagship store was created by Gluckman Mayner Architects, known for turning industrial spaces into art galleries, and it feels a little like an exhibition space. In the entrance area, a single display rack is surrounded by three giant black eagles.
Women's dresses are strictly for the avant garde; the more subdued tailored pants and jeans (up to $240) never go out of style.
Helmut Lang’s shoes are as sophisticated and elegant as his clothes. Sting ray pumps (from $300) or rough suede ankle boots with wooden heel (from $400). Matching bags and belts, too.
Men will find the occasional splash of color in these wildly coveted collections, but Lang's work is most striking in black and white. Check out the classic single-breasted overcoats for $1,200.

This is a small NoLita boutique manages to be girly without being precious, and the cuts are flattering and sexy. The store is full of preppy classics (pastel skirts, shrunken cardigans) and infuses them with a touch of punk, like a bit of black lace or a tiny cut.
Mayle’s tweed skirts and edgy silk blouses fit the average budget without compromising elegance and style.
The store also has a selection of accessories, art objects and a few vintage things.
Hollywood fashionistas like Shiva Rose and Cameron Diaz are drawn to the line.

Another creation of chef Keith McNally.
The environement is very understated. Recycled subway tiles, wine bottles along the walls gave this gorgeous former pharmacy on Rivington Street an authentic downtown quasi-bistro feel.
The restaurant does not have a French bistro feel of Balthazar or Pastis, however, the food is good and service is usually swift. The fish & chips, pot roast special, chopped liver mousse, watercress salad with blue cheese and walnuts (everything--except that steak--is $15 or under) stand out among the better-than-average bistro fare. From the eggs Hussard--poached atop ham, tomato and mushroom mix doused with Bordelaise and Hollandaise - to the simple fines herb omelette, everything is done very well.

This restaurant excels in presenting northern Italian and Mediterranean fare and is known for its creative use of chili pepper, which punctuates everything from lemony anchovies over a bed of faro to a refreshing, Greek-like cucumber-and-olive salad under a blanket of shaved ricotta salata. Try the goat cheese truffle with roasted peppers and tapenade; marinated quail with plums, frisTe, and pomegranate molasses; or roasted monkfish with porcini, Chianti, and sage.
Chef Mario Batali prepares six-course tasting menus for $42, which maybe the best bang for buck in NY’s fine dining. Reservation is hard to get in this tiny place so call ahead of time.

Pastis is the unrivaled bistro-of-the-moment in the Meatpacking District.
The service is breezy, down to earth and professional. The food is good, but far from great. You'll enjoy your meal most if you stick to bistro staples. The wine list boasts predominately French wines by the bottle, but also refreshing wines by the carafe.
The restaurant is split into two rooms. The front room hosts a bar - Walk-ins and those who were not lucky enough to get reservations eat in this room. The rear dining area, away from the milling bodies, has nice touches like mahogany trims, wooden tabletops, and tea towels for napkins to complete the old-style brasserie feeling.
A great place to go to for great fun and good food.
