While a bit pricey, the Queen Mary is a So Cal must see. Explore the engine room, private quarters, old staterooms of this ship that is larger than the titanic. Take a self guided or the elusive guided tour around the 40's era legend. The ship is rumored to be haunted and is marked with plaques all around about its numerous ghost sightings. There is a ghost tour full of Disneyesque special effects and for the morbid, walk down to the isolation ward to learn about all of the different deaths on board, and view the embalming equipment used on these late passengers. The restaurants range from casual to fine dining and staying in the hotel is a creepy treat, though somewhat expensive. Ask for one of the recently remodeled rooms.

While their permanent collection is somewhat lacking in pizazz, they always have top-notch touring exhibits such as the Art of Tibet, or the Mummies of Egypt. Touring school groups can create a bit of a traffic jam, but things usually calm down around afternoon. Their Tangata restaurant is somewhat of a hotspot around town, so if you are planning on eating there, call ahead to make reservations. THis is an educational alternative the the other intellectually frothy pursuits the rest of Orange Countie loves so well.

A great alternative to the many millions of mind-numbing attractions sprikled around So Cal. The Center just went through a several million dollar overhaul with all new exhibits and shows. The museum also hosts a number of popular traveling exhibits touring the country. The proceeds of your ticket go toward operation of the non-profit museum and other programs such as community outreach and K-12 teacher training in science. A great place to go for hours of fun and a wonderful place to make a donation to continue their numerous charity programs.

Though usually overrun with gangbangers and older and not as well kept as its more well-known competitors, Knott's provides a fun experience with a little character (strange character, but character none the less). The thrill rides are more thrilling than those you'll find at Disneyland, but the theming is lacking. It's a mixed bag with Knotts. During October, the entire park transforms into Knott's Scary Farm where the streets are filled with chemical fog and hundreds of actors lurking in dark corners waiting to pounce. Last year there were about 12 haunted houses/ mazes and about five shows. The highlight of my year, I highly reccomend this place after dusk in October.

If you have one day in So Cal, this is where you should spend that day. The quality of rides and shows far surpasses that of any and all of its peers (save the other Disney theme parks). The theatrical quality of even some of the thrill rides will leavie you mesmerized, and chances are you'll swear off six flags for good. While it tends to be crowded during the summer, the end of December, and on weekends, you are almost guaranteed to walk on any of the rides without lining upif you go during an off season weekday. Though most experiences at Disneyland are top notch, the restaurants are the exception, so if you get hungry, head to one of the independently owned and operated restaurants in nearby Downtown Disney.

It's smaller than Disneyland, there are less than1/4 of the rides Disneyland has, the rides aren't as good (in general), and it costs the same. Not a great deal. Save your money. Spend the day at Universal Studios instead, or buy a park hopper so you can spend a few hours at DCA, then spend the rest of the day at Disneyland.

Great with kids young and old! Teaches pre-reading all the way up to High School reading and speed reading. One on one personalized education with RESULTS. Help your child learn to love reading. The sessions are very fun - it feels more like playtime with the younger students, and as a result, they gravitate to books on their own!!!!

It's hard to put your finger on the theme of this restaurant strangely billed as an "American Restaurant." As such, it falls into the category of California Cuisine by default. The atmosphere is subdued (a nice change) and the decory is some strange, moody Native American/ post-modern hybrid. The food is eclectic - a lot of seafood prepared in exotic ways (ie with miso, etc.). A bit overpriced but a nice experience and a pleasant retreat from the mega-chains which have taken over this neck of the woods.

DON'T GO HERE! These guys are not the best when it comes to servicing cars. After taking my car in for stalling when idling, I was told that I had a problem with my battery, and that was the problem. Then I was told it was actually the battery cables. Then I was told it was this and then that. One week and $1,600 later, I picked up my car and it was still stalling. I took it back, called all week to find out what the status was and did not get a call back until one week later. I was then told it was the fuel pump, and that would cost just under $500. If these guys new what they were doing, the fuel pump should have been one of the first things they looked at. Even I know that. I called the Service director several times, and he never returned my call. I had a call in to the general manager who graciously accepted to fix the problem for free (free meaning free + the $1600 I already paid). I tried to schedule the "free" maintenance, and to date, have not had any of my calls returned. DON'T GO HERE!
