Decent prices, good selection, hot and helpful pharmacists. Just because the pharmacists are hot, don't assume that they don't know their pharmaceuticals, because they do. Ask them. Kings pharmacy is open early and late. The only thing that is really lacking is the greeting card selection. But if you need soap or shampoo or anything like that, they will have it, and have many choices of it, and it will be pretty cheap, too.

This is a great supply store for people who make their own jewelry. If you need wire, chain, or other metal jewelry components or tools (silver only), Metalliferous probably has some of the lowest prices in town, a good selection and high quality. However, you shouldn't mind feeling as if you are in someone's private stock room, having to obey their (many) rules. The store is small, so don't bring any large bags, or friends for that matter. But, it's definitely worth the trip.

Tent and Trails is another one of those New York stores with everything under the sun squished into a small space. This store is actually three floors, but they carry almost everything for camping, hiking, and climbing, so even though they have quite a bit of space, you can barely move around inside. The staff usually know their stuff very well, and sometimes they have great deals, like an annual half price sale.

Mike's is the spot for that late weekend breakfast. But if you are too late, you better be ready to wait and wait and wait because it is really popular and really small. Mike's seems kind of like an ordinary diner, but everything is just better. Better service, better food, better people. Do not be fooled by the pratt coffee shop, wait it out at Mike's, it worth it.

Adami's has just about everything you need for fixing up the apartment, except lumber. They do have a great selection of tools, hardware, paint and housewares. They make any kind of keys. The staff is friendly and helpful, but the store has difficult hour for working people. they close at 6pm on weekdays and they aren't open on sundays. If they were open later and had lumber it would be perfect.

Fort Greene Park is a great old New York Park. It now has a decent greenmarket during the summer, too. Great place for hanging out, barbecuing, tennis, soccer, dog walking (early morning and late at night). Sledding is also pretty good in winter on the hill or on the granite stairs (believe it). There are always people running up the stairs just like Rocky which is fun to watch.

These guys are quick and friendly and they have fair prices. They were able to solve a mysterious problem with my old Volvo that had perplexed other mechanics and I didn't have to blow a bunch of cash to get it fixed. I also noticed that they drained the water out of my headlights (if you have an old 240 you know what I'm talking about) without even mentioning it or charging me anything.

Seven years ago, this Associated had a stinky meat department, hardly any produce or cheese, but a killer selection of goya products. They still have the goya, but over the last three years this place has gotten better literally every day. Aside from the "best beer selection in brooklyn" which I'm not sure they truly have, even though they claim to, they now also have fresh produce, a decent cheese selection, non-stinky meats, and something new and good every day. Latest examples: fresh-baked portugese bread, loose exotic mushrooms, smart deli vegetarian "meats."

The Thing is a thrift store with clothes, books, furniture and other knick-knacks, but more than half of the store is jam packed with used records. I can't even estimate how many records are in the store, but the entire basement is filled with records from floor to ceiling in shelves and also haphazardly piled on the floor. There is absolutely no organizational system whatsoever, so the chances you will actually find a record you want to buy are quite small, but if you do find one, it will only cost a buck. It is worth see just to marvel over the sheer quantity of records.
