I think that was from the old New England Aquarium TV commercial! Anyway, it is a WONDERFUL aquarium and there is so much to see! The penguins usually are the first stop and you could honestly spend hours visiting with them - they are so cute! You can also look in at the little animal hospital they have inside the aquarium. There are LOTS of traditional exhibits that you might expect. There is an enormous sea turtle that you can look down at from above (from the top floor of the facility).
There are also whale watch boats that leave from the aquarium, which I believe are connected with it.
One unique aspect of this place, which most people don't really know about, is that you can book private functions inside the aquarium! I know a couple of people that held their wedding receptions at the aquarium. If you are looking for a unique, non-traditional venue for this type of occasion, this is a place to consider - it would certainly be memorable!

If you are a Red Sox fan, you really need to visit this store at some point. You need your essentials, like a hat (or even a variety of hats to match all your outfits!), a jersey with your favorite player's name on it to wear to games at Fenway, plus a few t-shirts to wear around outside the Park. This store has everything you will ever need as a member of Red Sox Nation! However, be prepared to pay a lot for your items - this store is not cheap!
If you want one of the more "interesting" t-shirts that often are not even allowed in the Park, because of their crude sayings, you will have to wander around Fenway after a home game and you will find independent vendors out on the sidewalks selling these shirts. You won't find them in the Souvenir Store. This store is for the more "traditional" Red Sox gear.
Enjoy!

This is a great little neighborhood convenience store (perhaps inconveniently holding onto an old name that no longer describes everything offered by the store). It seems that if you were looking for snacks, lottery tickets, "smokes", small gifts, etc. This would be the place to go in Union Square. They have a selection of very inexpensive greeting cards, which are quite difficult to find these days! One drawback is that they seem to keep inconvenienct hours for those working downtown and living in Union Square, since they are often closed in the early morning and in the evening after work. It is a great little shop, though, with lots of Union Square neighborhood charm!
Enjoy!

A day of shopping (or window shopping!) in Harvard Square is not complete without a visit to this jewelry shop. It is conveniently located... right outside the main exit of the T stop. The jewelry here is VERY high end and even stopping and lingering by the windows to admire the jewelry and watches can be enjoyable! If you do end up shopping here, you will be in impressive company. Last year, former President Bill Clinton was spotted visiting this store during a stop in Boston and Cambridge. It is a fun place to visit, even if the jewelry is out of your price range!

The Boston Public Library is an amazing place to visit. Even if you don't crack open a book the entire time you are in the facility, you will walk away enlightened! The building is one of the most beautiful architectural masterpieces in Boston. It truly feels like a museum throughout the building! There is an amazing courtyard in the center of the building where you can relax on a bench and read a book. In these days of consumerism, people tend to forget about the luxury of a free library, where you can have access to any book in the world!
I highly recommend a visit!

As far as bookstores go, this one has a pretty extensive selection. It is located right in the center of Harvard Square and is easy to spot right when you leave the main exit of the T. There are three floors in the store, all kinds of books, magazines and even a little food (like a snack cafรฉ)! This is the bookstore that carries the books for Harvard Students, but this happens in a different section of the store. There is also another section of the store that carries Harvard memorabilia.
If you are a Harvard Student, you can join the Coop and get a percentage of your purchases back in a check at the end of the year, which is pretty cool.
They always have everything I am looking for, but I always expect to pay a lot for that luxury!
Enjoy!

Urban Outfitters offers pretty "hip" home decor and some clothing. I would say that the style and price point of the items offered gears the store toward the average college student or perhaps someone in their first apartment. You might see such things as: Crazy throw pillows in very unusual fabrics; unique lamps and blankets, etc.
I remember shopping often in this store when I was in college and thinking that the items were very cool. If you are in your late teens or early 20s, this is DEFINATELY the store for you. You could spend hours browsing, even if you don't buy anything!
Enjoy!

I believe that The Blue Man group started here in Boston first. I have seen the show a couple of times over the years and been impressed each time. A couple of things you might not be expecting when you go: The Blue Men are actually pretty scary! :) If you are thinking about bringing children to the show, I would not necessarily recommend it. I can imagine that they might come away frightened. Also, the show gets SO HYPED UP by the media and by the word on the street that I would almost say I was disappointed, but it could not possibly have lived up to all the hype that it gets. It was a great show, but I would not call it anything near a "life changing experience" or some of the other things you hear. It is a fun thing to go spend an evening doing. Don't forget to leave your best clothes at home, especially if your seats are near the front row! It gets a little interactive and messy!
Enjoy!

Curious George Goes to Wordsworth is a wonderful place to waste away an afternoon, especially if you have a child to entertain. I always remember the GIANT stuffed animals (especially George, of course!) that greet you throughout the store. This is certainly a place where you can sit down on the floor and curl up with a book and you wont get a second glance. It offers a really great selection of childrens books as well as childrens toys to go with the books! Wander in and charge your imagination!

Harvard Square is famous for its academics (of course) and along with that, it is also famous for the ability one has when in Harvard Square to stroll from bookstore to bookstore. In the past 10 years or so, many of the bookstores have started sadly disappearing, but this one has stood strong. I believe it is still independently owned and does have a good selection of unique books. To clarify, this is NOT the "Coop" or the main Harvard University Bookstore. This one is a short walk from the center of the square, but it is a great little place to browse and find that perfect book to read!
Enjoy!
