For some reason, it was just this past month that I made my way into O'Sullivan's for the first time. I lived across the street from the place for a year and then only about a mile away for the past three years. I think it was because I always thought it looks like a seedy bar from the outside, so I never ventured in. It wasn't until I was watching the Phantom Gourmet (my weekend morning guilty pleasure!) and saw O'Sullivan's recognized as one of the best burgers in New England when I realized it must be some sort of crime that I had not yet been. The Phantom was right - the burgers are really good! The one thing that I didn't like about them (and this is just being nit-picky of course!) is that they look like hamburger baseballs on buns (they don't squish them down at all, they just roll them into a ball, cook them, and put them on the bun). For this reason, I found them kind of difficult to eat. But they do have a WIDE variety of burger choices, and you won't be disappointed. The place is VERY crowded and they really cram the tables in there, so get ready to get cozy with your neighbors! The bar is large and there does seem to be a bar crowd that comes to O'Sullivan's during the evening.
Enjoy!

Dali is owned by the people that brought us Tapeo (downtown) and Cuchi Cuchi (in Cambridge). When you walk in the front door, you are immediately transported from Somerville to Spain. The smells, the noise and the soft, warm lighting combine to create an amazing atmosphere and a memorable experience. Dali serves Tapas, which are basically an array of appetizers. The choices are varied and exotic and you should bring your adventurous spirit when you visit. The food is absolutely phenomenal. You can visit Dali for an intimate, romantic date or a large family birthday party - neither would be out of place.

Butternut Farm Golf Club is a very nice golf course. My husband visited this course last summer and was extremely impressed. The course is very well kept. He found it to be impressively difficult. He felt that the course was not too busy, and that was nice. It was somewhat expensive. He thinks it cost about $50 or so. He would highly recommend this golf course!

My husband LOVED this course. He said that it was really nice. He hosted "Golf With the Groom" at this course on the morning before our wedding with several men involved in the wedding and some of our guests. They had an amazing time. He really recommends it!

My husband has played golf at this course several times. He is not crazy about it. First of all, the course is only 9 Holes, which is fine, because he knew this going into it. However, he did not expect that it would always be packed full. It might always be packed because this is really one of the closest courses to downtown Boston. He was also pretty disappointed to find that the course is not really well kept, mostly because of the excessive usage. For golf in the city, he thought the price was ok, but for what you get, he really did not think that the price is worth it.

I always thought that Trader Joes was a gourmet food store with gourmet prices to match. I have since been introduced to the store and have found that it is a delightful store that offers all kinds of things at actually really reasonable prices. My particular personal favorite has been the wine - it is quite good and only costs around $3 per bottle - amazing! They sell all kinds of wonderful food and it is certainly worth a visit!

This store is tucked away in Harvard Square and is a place you really must visit if you are spending an afternoon shopping in the area. When you enter the store, you feel overwhelmed by all the goodies that seem to be stuffed in every little nook and cranny from floor to ceiling!! They have all types of really original gifts as well. They were willing to work with me when I stopped in and wanted to buy 50 of the same post card for the baskets we were creating for out of town guests at our wedding. They helped me by determining a lower price that was really reasonable.
It is really a treat to walk out of the store with a little bag filled with your personal selection of candy - YUM!
Enjoy!

We got married two years ago and several friends and acquaintences recommended that we check out Hallie's Garden for our flowers. As we were planning our wedding, we realized we wanted inexpensive, but nice flowers, since the flowers were not our priority. One thing that I really wanted was a cascading bouquet that touched the ground. I didn't care what type of flowers were used and I was looking for someone who would accept this challenge. I went to meet with Hallie's Garden with great expectations after everything I had heard about them. The flowers and various foods in the store looked nice and I was hopeful. I brought some photos with me of different types of bouquets I had found on the internet and was looking for them to tell me what was possible. I did not even tell them any specific budget (or even price range) and when I told them what I was interested in, they literally laughed in my face. I was pretty offended. To me, they seemed snobby. I really did not feel that they were willing to work with me at all. I was very happy that we found Posies and Poppies, who gladly took on the challenge for a very reasonable price.

The Wine and Cheese Cask is just as it sounds - a great selection of wine and cheese. The beer selection is not great - they have fewer options than other places - they might have some of the really common types of beer, but in all, they probably only have 20 or so types of beer. The prices are reasonable in that they have a good range - everything from cheap red wine to expensive ports, but the prices are within the range that you would expect. The staff is helpful when you have questions about the various types of cheese and even help you pair the wine with it if you ask. The location is great - it is at an intersection right between Harvard, Inman, Central and Union Squares. This is really convenient, especially for people connected with Harvard. This is a "must visit" before your next party!

The Market Basket is a very unique grocery store. It is run by the DeMoulas family. There are many pros and cons to shopping at this store.
Let's start with the pros:
1. This is the least expensive food you are going to find in the greater Boston area. I am not kidding. This food is priced well below any other supermarket in the area.
2. This store carries some unique items - for instance, there is nearly an entire aisle devoted to Goya products (and the place is really not that big!)
Now the cons:
1. You are not paying for customer service. When you go to this store, know what you want and be willing to figure out where it is. Hardly any of the staff are able to speak English, even a little, and even when they can, they don't really know where the items are that you are looking for. Also, it seems that most of them have never been trained on customer service. They would not think twice of answering "I don't know" to your question and walking away, rather than trying to figure it out, giving it their best guess, or pointing you in the general direction of someone who can help you.
2. They change around where things are on a weekly basis. There is no rhyme or reason to where you might find something. You basically have to guess, or buy something else.
3. The aisles are too skinny for the carts. This always creates tension between the hundreds of customers trying to get around in the store.
When you go, make sure you are well rested and bring lots of patience with you - you will find very inexpensive groceries!
Enjoy!
