My husband and I love to get up on Sunday "morning" (usually closer to afternoon than morning) and take a little walk over to this Dunkin Donuts. It is a great place to people watch as it is one place that is full of a cross section of people from the Union Square neighborhood. The donuts and coffee are wonderful (as is to be expected) and they do a good job of choosing soothing music while we are there eating our donuts and planning out our Sunday afternoon. There is a young guy there that sells the Sunday papers by the doors to the restaurant, so if you haven't gotten your paper yet, he is always there all late morning and early afternoon!

This is a great little take out restaurant that is an unassuming little fixture of the neighborhood that would certainly be missed if it were to leave! This place offers pizza, subs, AWESOME hot wings, and lots more. There are usually two or three young guys working here behind the counter with some sort of ball game on the TV. There are three or four tables to eat your meal, but we usually just get it to go (mostly because we live so close). My mouth is actually watering thinking about their hot wings after I just typed that - maybe I'll go get some tonight! :)

Seriously... I usually try to find something positive to talk about in a review, but when people's lives are at stake, I need to just cut to the chase. Morton Hospital is the worst hospital I have ever heard of. It is seriously bad - I have too many stories to share here, but just a few: I can think of THREE instances in which my own or a friend's elderly relative was dropped on the floor... Another relative had emergency surgury on his knee and then they found later that the surgury was done incorrectly and they had to do corrective surgury... there have been many other instances. My family continues to swear by this hospital (I think because it is so close to home) but if you can avoid it, go into Boston - the Boston hospitals are far and away much better.

Everyone knows how intense Fenway can get. McCoy Stadium is the opposite of Fenway in that regard. It is a great place to go and watch baseball in a more relaxed environment. You can get in for a very reasonable price and you won't really see people start yelling about the team's rival or at the fans of the team's rival (actions which do have a time and a place, but the time and place are just not McCoy Stadium). The inexpensive prices make this a GREAT idea for a family outing, especially if you have a couple or more young children, or if the family's enthusiasm about the game doesn't warrent the crazy price of a Fenway ticket. Given all that, nothing compares to Fenway, but this is an alternative!

For as long as I can remember, my enormous Portuguese family ordered from Art's Bakery for every possible occasion. My family is really into food and somewhat particular about it too, so you know this place has to be good! We get our baked goods for Easter and Christmas Eve from Art's as well as cakes for special occasions. I remember when they started offering the service where you can have a photo screenprinted onto the cake icing - my family went crazy, they loved it so much. So, at least one group of 100+ people really loves and highly recommends this place!

They do a fine job - whenever we get suits and other types of clothing back, they are always clean and nicely pressed. The price is average. We brought a down comforter there once to get it cleaned after our cat had an "accident" on the comforter. The stain was not fully gone, but the smell was gone and it seemed clean (we were fine with this since we always use a duvet cover, so we'll never see the stain anyway.

Kroll's has great homemade food, including several traditional ethnic dishes. It is a favorite in the Bismarck area. The best thing, in our family's opinion are the caramel rolls - yum! When you get a hankering for Knoepfla soup - Kroll's is definately the place to go! You can buy a bunch of caramel rolls and take them home to your family if you want a really great breakfast or you can bring the whole family in to the restaurant for the caramel rolls - either way, it is worth it!

Many school children have taken field trip tours through this museum. It is a great collection of historical artifacts and exhibits about North Dakota history. There are exhibits about Native American culture and history, Lewis and Clark adventures, American travels on the Oregon Trail and early population of the American plains, and many other aspects of North Dakotan history. Kids are always excited about one exhibit in particular in which you get to smell Bison feces. Eww!
It is a fun and very educational museum and I recommend a visit.

The Kirkwood Mall is the place to go if you want to hang out at the mall. They have all sorts of stores from Target, to fye to Sam Goody to Herbergers, to J.C. Penneys and the new I. Keating furniture store, which is awesome! This is also the place to see Santa at Christmas time and tell him your special wish. The Bismarck High School band leads him into the mall. There is a Starbucks strategically located in the center of the mall with a nice little sitting area where you can take a cup of coffee and people watch. It is a really good mall.

This is a store that sells new music. It looks nice when you walk by in the mall, but it is always empty, which makes it seem like the music must be cheaper in Target or Sam Goody, which are just down the hallway in the mall. If you are hanging out in the mall, it is a good place to go to browse the new music selection, but if you want to buy music, it might be worth your while to check Target prices first or drive over to Best Buy in the north side, since it mgiht be cheaper there as well.
