We have been seeing Dr. Anderson at the Anderson Animal Clinic for approximately 18 years. He has been a reliable and consistent vet for all of our animals. We have had 5 dogs spayed by him throughout the years and have been reasonably happy with each one and their recovery time. The prices are absolutely unbeatable in the East Valley. I do find Dr. Anderson "bedside" manor to be a little brisk, but he is able to answer any questions that may arise.

If you have a child in the family that adores dinosaurs, the Mesa Southwest Museum is a great place to take them. They have a huge display that simulates what it would have been like for the dinosaurs to be in a flash flood. They have great information on types of dinosaurs and nice replicas. They have cute old-style jail cells that make for a great photo opportunity. Make sure to bring your camera and take a picture of your child in jail!!

The kids that I have brought to the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park have loved it with no exceptions. The old carousel has a real charm to it and the kids absolutely love it. The train is cute and affordable and is a great way to see the park and get the kids on a miniature train for a ride. I wouldn't recommended the train ride in the summer. Metal + AZ heat = ouch!

Calling all bargain shoppers! Last Chance Bargain Shoes and Apparel is the place where all of the returns from Nordstrom's get taken. The items have been returned for a reason and a lot of the stuff is in terrible shape. So, when you go, be willing to dig through shelves and buckets and racks upon racks to find that 1 or 2 items that are like gold. It is name brand merchandise and there can be some stuff that is in good shape. Make sure you like the item and are willing to live with the flaws, because they won't take returns. Best buys to date: a brand new Kate Spade purse and Doc Martens (when they were in). Happy shopping!

Dugans allows children and adults alike to experience farm-life up close and hands on. Children are able to milk a cow and participate in other farm activities. There are tractors to look at and a great petting zoo. Great educational place for the whole family!

Sportsmans has an amazing selection of wine and other spirits. They are a great place to just take different wines and explore your palate. They have a nice, small menu of wine appropriate foods and cheeses and there is always a great pairing for your chosen wine. The staff is somewhat helpful, but the busier it gets, the less they are willing to walk the novice through the basics.

When Tempe Town Lake first came to Arizona, I sure was skeptical about a lake in the middle of Tempe. But over the years, it has become a landmark in the city of Tempe. Attached to the lake is Tempe Beach Park which draws some great activities. They have live concerts, beach volleyball, and more. It is also a great place to have a picnic and watch the boats and canoes go by.

This is a cute park with reasonably clean grounds. They park has cute water features that would be appropriate for younger children. They do have a train that goes around the park, but like the others, I have never seen it functioning. I especially like this park for taking a stroll around the grounds in the spring and early summer. I like to take a blanket, a good book and just enjoy the weather and people watching. A nice park with some fun to offer for everyone.

Summer Winds Nursery has a great selection of both seasonal flowers and plants. They always have a fresh selection and I have no problem filling my flat bed every time I go in. In addition to their great selection, I have found that their staff is overly helpful. They have helped select nutrients for sickly plants and also plants for specific lighting areas. They also have a great return policy if a plant dies (probably only certain plants, I used it on a rose bush): 1 year no questions asked with receipt and dead plant in hand. Can't beat it!

Although the Arizona Snowbowl can get overcrowded and parking may be hard, it has great slopes for Arizona. We like to stay in Sedona and combine a trip to Snowbowl with a stay in Sedona. The past year (2004) was the best skiing and snowboarding conditions Arizona has seen in years. Granted the slopes were packed, but it was worth it for the great powder.
