A wonderful local, queer friendly theater 8/16/2005

The New York Theater Workshop has been around for decades, and is a welcome alternative to the often impersonal, cavernous Broadway theaters that decorate New York City's landscape. NYTW presents acclaimed and innovative productions through its workshop setting where artists create new work, hone their craft and collaboratively explore theatre. This summer of 2005, the first production of their 2005-2006 season is the Five Lesbian Brothers performance of "Oedipus at Palm Springs" a wonderful edgy look at a contemporary interpretation of the famous Sophecles tragedy. This time, the Brothers examine the real-life work of trying to love another person through the story of two long-term couples on a weekend trip to the desert paradise. The theater offers audeinces an opportunity to be exposed to new works by established playwrights as well as giving emerging artists a chance to expand their reach. more
