I teach preschool and I love toys. This store is so great. They have such wonderful toys...toys that don't need to require batteries to be entertaining.
They have a huge selection of great kids books, even things that adults would love, like the Complete Dictionary of Dragons.
They have the best puppets too. I was so happy to see that they carry Folkmanis brand puppets, a very high quality brand that specializes in puppets of unique and beautiful animals. In the past I have found an Anteater puppet, a puppet of baby chicks in a nest and the coolest shark puppet.
In addition to that, they have puzzles suitable for any skill level, tons of different types of blocks, playmobile and duplo sets.

Fired Up in Okemos is a place where you can paint your own pottery, have it fired in a kiln, and pick it up later so that you can have a keepsake to treasure forever.
If you are artistic, or know how to paint, or use stamps or sponges it is actually very fun. You can choose to paint anything, from a cheap ceramic tile, to a ridiculously ornate, expensive vase.
You first will use a pencil to draw your designs onto the ceramic. Then you choose your paints from a color chart on the wall. The chart shows you how the colors will turn out after they have been fired in the kiln so that you will not be fooled by what they look like while they are in the bottles.
After you choose your colors you can get to work. You can use stamps, sponges, stencils, or just paint freehand if you like.
The studio is nice and colorful, and is decorated with pottery the staff has painted. It is all really, really good. Don't feel bad if yours doesn't look as good. Also don't feel bad if you really mess up your pottery (I.E have it coming along nicely but then suddenly stamp a big black eagle on it on a whim)
At Fired Up they will also charge you for the time you spend painting your pottery. This is your studio time. It can get pretty expensive, especially if you are with a lot of people. You leave your unfired pottery there, and come back in one week to pick it up. Sometimes there are accidents and pieces do not make it out of the kiln, but I have never, personally, known that to happen. They just warn you about it in case it does.

Preuss Animal House is one of those businesses that has been around for a very long time. They have cornered the market in the area for tropical and freshwater fish, as well as for all varieties for reptile.
Preuss Animal House is a very big store. They have a large area dedicated only to fish, with every size of aquarium (both new and used...used = good deal), tank decor, fish food, and live coral, not to mention innumberable varieties of fish available for purchase.
They usually have several kittens available as well. The kittens always look playful and healthy, and are a popular attraction because they are so cute and fuzzy.
They hand-raise several types of exotic birds, and have baby and adult parrots, cockatoos, macaws who are always willing to have a chat.
My favorite area of the store, however, is the impressive reptile room. The reptile staff is well-trained and can answer any question you have about purchasing or caring for a reptile. In fact, I bought my cornsnake, Jasper, from Preuss when he was a hatchling and could not have been more pleased with the service I recieved with picking him out and taking him home.
In the reptile room they have turtles, snakes of all sizes, and many varieties of lizards, spiders, scorpions and frogs. If you are not so brave, you can even find an ant farm in there.

Bottom's Up in Okemos is a very small store that is stuffed to the brim with leotards, dance shoes, warm-ups, skirts and lingerie. It is honestly difficult to walk around inside without nearly knocking something over, because they just have so much stuff. The two ladies that run it have a wealth of knowledge about the local dance scene, and can tell you everything you need to know about which studios are the best and who teaches what, etc. They also do a great job of fitting pointe shoes and working with you until you find a brand you are happy with.
Even if you are not a dancer, the store has a full range of brand name bras, panties, bustiers, you-name-it. It's just gorgeous stuff. It's all much classier, and much higher quality that anything you can find at Victoria's Secret or a chain store.
Prices range from cheap to very expensive. You just need to look through stuff until you find a good deal. They have frequent buyer punchcards where after you accumulate a certain amount of punches you get free items, which can save you about $80+ if you are talking about pointe shoes.

Specially trained footwear professionals will make sure that you are wearing the right shoe for the activity you will be participating in. They will even schedule a complimentary fit test, where your feet are evaluated while you are doing certain types of exercise, in order to see exactly what type of support, cushion and arch would be best for you. Twice a year (January and July) they have a great sidewalk sale where their items are marked down fifty percent or more.
They are averagely priced for brand name sporting goods. It is not a clearance or factory store, and the items are all from the current season. If you are looking for a bargain, wait for the sidewalk sale.

The Michigan Athletic Club in East Lansing, Michigan, is one of the nicest fitness club in the United States. There are things there for every sport. There are multiple Tennis, Racquetball, and Basketball courts. There are also 4 different swimming pools 2 lap pools and 2 play pool(Including 1 slide). There are also many machines to work on every part of your body. In addition, each treadmill and bike has its own television so you can watch your favorite show while you exercise. Up stairs there is also a restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat after you work out.

If you have a child that is nearing 14 and 8 months you might want to think about signing them up for segment 1 of drivers education. Personally i don't think there is a better place to take it then Mr. R's A+ Driving School. It costs 300 dollars to take segment 1 which will help your child get their permit. The earlier they get their permit the longer time they have to get their 50 hours of driving in so they can get their liscense. Mr. R's also provides segment 2 classes and driving tests. However, segment 2 and the driving test are not included in the first 300 dollar payment.

For example, you could get just an ice cream cone, banana split, slushy, or a twister. All of their items are very good and reasonably priced. On a hot day you may have to stand in line for a little bit but it's worth it.
