Broadway Bed & Breakfast Inn is a small, quiet bed and breakfast located in the heart of New York City's time square. The rooms are somewhat small (for normal people) but actually spacious (for new york city). Staying here means you can head back, take a nap, catch a quick meal at the cafe downstairs, and then head out and catch a showing of the Producers or Phantom of the Opera a block away.
The best thing about this bed and breakfast is the location. It's centrally located so you walk out and time square and the MTV building and studios are right outside your doorstep. The location of this hotel is key and one of the best selling points.
Pricing is not cheap; expect to pay above $200 per night for a room at this hotel.

The Sports Page is a run-of-the-mill sports bar located on the corner of Shoreline Blvd and Plymouth St. in Mountain View.
It's a regular hangout for locals who like to grab a beer after work and watch baseball, football, or any other random game live on the 10 or so televisions they have in the bar. There's usually a good mix of local games playing, as well as stuff they beam off the satellite dish they have installed on the roof.
There is a large patio area outside, as well as a sand volleyball court at this bar. We've seen sketchy locals play on the court. There's also a dart board (someone is always playing) and a dance floor outside too (we've never seen a dance party at this place at all).
Drinks are average priced; beers costs $5-7 and a pitcher costs around $20.

The waits are long to get your car repaired, the service staff is medocire, but at least it's a BMW service center and they have really awesome loaner cars when they can't fix what is wrong with your car.
The repair shop is pretty much the only BMW service center located in the penninsula area. The closest other BMW shop is Peter Pan BMW in San mateo or Stevens Creek BMW in San Jose.
The service staff is hit or miss. I've brought my car in several times to Allison BMW and either had incredible service and they fixed the issue with my car right away, or horribly incompetent service, where it took them a week to find a small part and that didn't even fix the problem. Consistency is hard to find at this place.
Allison BMW is located on El Camino Real near the Highway 85 exit in mountain view.

There are numerous rotating tech exhibits at the Tech Museum. One of the newest exhibits that has just opened is called "Net Planet" and focuses on the Internet, past present and future. There are interactive displays on how the internet works, including an internet arm wrestling exhibit and one on how "avantars" (online identities and characters) are developed.
The museum has many other exhibits too, including one that describes how microchips are fabbed, one that talks about cells and biotechnology, and one that features the gadget of the week (they had segway scooter demos when I went).

Cinearts, located on the corner of Page Mill Rd. and El Camino Real in Palo Alto is a small, aging movie theater that shows only classic and indie films. It's one of the few places you can catch the random, odd films that came fresh out of the Cannes film festival. It's kind of like an IMAX theater but without the big screen.
The theaters and screens are small, and you normally get a local crowd (no one travels far to see these films). That said, it's like your typical indie theater and there is nothing out of the ordinary here.
One thing this theater does have: a conession stand with conessions to match normal movie theater pricing.

The Century 16 Movie Theater, located off the 101 exit at Shoreline Blvd., is an aging movie theater. They don't take credit cards (you have to use this ridiculous fandango.com site to buy your tickets online if you want to use your visa card), the concession stand is a bit wacko (it's like a cafeteria where you grab everything then wait in a separate line to pay), and the theater is often dirty (they have to hire more cleaning staff).
The upholstry on the chairs are aging and starting to show its wear as well.
That said, on weekend nights, the theater is still amazingly full. There is plenty of free parking, but there are friday evenings when it's not easy to find a spot.
Movies are $9.75 at the time of this writing. $6.75 if you have a student ID or for a matinee (2pm or before) showing.

We stayed at the Triton before bay to breakers. it's a great place and relatively inexpensive place to stay (about $140 a night for a standard room).
The room was small but was was well kept and quite clean. The bed was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep before the run.
The hotel's lobby has a very funky design. It was coloful--it had hues of blue, red, purple, red--it was like a rainbow in the lobby.
That said, the Triton Hotel has a good location in San Francisco, it's inexpensive, it's clean, and despite the fact that the rooms are small, you can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

The Sir Francis Drake Hotel is located on Powell Street in San Francisco, near the downtown Union Square shopping district. It's quite centrally located and posh. It's also a place to see and be seen as many hip and young San Franciscians hang out both in the lobby and at Henry Denton's starlight room at the top of the hotel.
The rooms at the Sir Francis Drake are large and spacious, though the hotel is NOT cheap and quite pricey. Expect to pay about $250 for a standard room.
The Sir Francisis Drake is a full service hotel filled with various amenities, including high speed internet service (costs extra money), room service, and a nice mini-bar filled with all the (expensive) drinks you can imagine.

The Chabot Space and Science Center is located in the hills of Oakland, CA. It's full of many great exhibits and even has a planetarium. There are several shows in the planetarium including laser shows and shows about how the stars move across the night sky.
The exhibits rotate often and there is a kids area that has numerous activites that are geared for children. There are even maps and coloring books you can check out for your kids and activites that require them to get stamps.
Admission is about $10 and depends on the activites you want to do (e.g. it costs more if you want to visit the planetarium and see a couple of shows)

AMC Mercado 20 is one of the silicon valley's largest movie theaters. Built about 8 years ago it is the destination for nearly every high school student on the weekends. Parking is horrible and you can't find a free spot on the weekends.
That said, the theater is quite nice. There is stadium seating, 20 screens, and a well stocked concession stand. The food isn't cheap of course, but then again, what movie theater has cheap food?
Tickets are often sold out for popular films. Star wars 3, for example, had long waiting lines to get into the theater and no spare tickets. You often have to buy online on moviephone.com.
