Unexpectedly located right in the heart of Rockefeller center, Kinokuniya is a slice of Japan. They have everything -- school supplies (my favorite: pens with smiling plastic rice ball toppers), magazines, books, movies, music, an amazing selection of manga, even a tea cafe in the back. Everything is in Japanese, of course, and the clientele are mainly Japanese, but you do catch the occasional American wandering through the manga. A great little oasis of Japan resources.
