Amoeba Music is a Bay Area institution and one of those places that you have to visit at least once. And if you're looking for music (or movies) you will definitely find something you like. Amoeba sells new and used stuff, in all formats (CD, tape, vinyl, VHS, DVD, etc.). If you're looking for something from your youth or a hot new band, you can get it at Amoeba. I like to peruse the bargain bins for random stuff and the occasional gem. Be prepared to invest some time in the store, but it's worth it.

Although this restaurant tends to get overshadowed by it's neighbor, Lulu, it's a very good establishment in it's own right. One of the many highlights are the great cocktails, which is always a good way to start a meal. The food is innovative, fresh, and well presented. Service was great and the layout of the interior makes some tables somewhat private. Save room for dessert as well. I'd like to site at the long bar (kind of like a sushi bar) one of these days. Give this place a shot, especially if Lulu is crowded.

This is for those of us out there who are not "beauty salon" types of people. I've had a haircut from everyone in this shop and I've always been happy with the results. I've been going here for over 3 years now, so they know me, which is nice. Even after moving out of the Haight, I still like to come here for haircuts because I like the service and the price is right.

Dr. Dan, as many of his patients call him is the only Chiropractor I've been to, but my experience was great. After the initial exam, he took me through a series of adjustments that ultimately helped with the problems I was experiencing at the time. This office also offers a wide range of other "wellness" services. It was also convenient that they took my insurance (Blue Cross).

I can't say enough good things about The Sports Basement. They carry all kinds of sports gear at great prices. You're always going to get a good deal on whatever you're buying. They also offer additional discounts for many sports clubs and leagues, not to mention KQED members. While I like their new store (because it's bigger), I have a soft spot for their original location in SOMA.

Don't get me wrong. This is a perfectly fine restaurant. The food is good (not spectacular), service acceptable, and the decor was interesting (as everyone describes). I was just expecting more after hearing so much about this place, especially for the price. My entrée pretty sums it up. I was all excited to try their take on southern fried chicken. i thought it was cool to do an "upscale" version of fried chicken. It was good and all, but ultimately was just over priced fried chicken. It's certainly worth a visit if it's in your budget, but for the money, there are many other world class restuarants in SF.

One of the few restaurants in SF that lives up to its reputation. Extensive wine list, of course. Excellent food and great service. I've dined here numerous times and have always had a wonderful experience. If you're in for a more casual night, or didn't make a reservation, sit in the bar (they serve the full menu) and listen to the live music. The dining room is worth getting a reservation though.

A definite cut above your neighborhood Thai restaurant. The food is consistently good. But what sets this place apart is the owner/hostess, who is a total character. She's not afraid to boss you around and if you're not sure what you want, she'll order for you. The decor is also pretty interesting; makes you feel like you're dining in a beach hut. Objectively speaking, the service can be a bit chaotic, especially if it's busy, but they are efficient. If you want good Thai food and a potentially interesting dining experience, it's definitely worth the trip.

This store has a great, eclectic collection of videos and DVDs to rent. There are the new releases, of course, along with plenty of cult classics and a wide variety of other genres (just what you'd expect from a video store on Haight Street. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, but not judgmental. One of the little things that i liked was that their loyalty program (rent x-number of video and get a free rental) was automatic. No annoying punch cards. If you live in the Haight, you're lucky to have this as your neighborhood video rental store.

This shop is proof that the cool, local video rental store is the exception rather than the rule. The counter staff at this establishment are always grumpy and not very helpful. On some occasions, they were even rude (giving my girlfriend a hard time renting on my account). As often with these small neighborhood shops, the selection is small and not well organized. It's a good thing that Netflix exists (not to mention that I moved) so I don't ever have to return to this horrible little establishment.
