This restaurant really does live up to it's reputation serving excellent Vietnamese food. Everything is fresh and well prepared. The bar serves up some unique cocktails and the overall service is top notch. I miss the original location in the Mission. If I had to nitpick, the new location is new and modern, but a bit cold. Still well worth the wait and expense. Be sure to get plenty of appetizers and share so you can sample more of the menu.

The Metreon movie theaters are generally one of the better theaters in SF. They're what you'd expect from a modern multiplex (stadium seating, good sound, expensive concessions). I really like the IMAX theater, which is one of, if not the largest in the world. They used to play regular movies on the IMAX screens, which was always a nice bonus, and now there are an increasing number of mainstream movies being released specifically for IMAX. The tickets are more expensive, but it's a whole different moving going experience. I don't know if it's because the tickets are more expensive or if it's the larger IMAX theater, I found that people are much better behaved (much less talking and cell phones).

The location in downtown San Francisco can be a little sketchy but you should still check it out. I've heard other people complain about the service, but I've never had a problem.

This is a surprisingly fun par 3 course in scenic Golden Gate park. If you're looking to work on your short game, or just want to have a nice afternoon golf outing in the city, this is a great option. It's usually pretty easy to get on the course. Since this is a public, par 3, there can many beginners on the course, but enjoy the views while you wait.

There are so many great things about PacBell (I mean SBC) park. Not a bad seat in the house. The Club level is great, if you're into that kind of thing, but I also really enjoy the bleachers on a nice sunny day. The food is great, albeit at ball park prices. Be warned, it can get a little windy, especially for the night games, so be sure to dress appropriately.

Fry's is a popular destination for "geeks" because they have all kinds of computer and electronics gear at great prices, paired with junk food. While I appreciate how Fry's was able to build it's business, the low prices, and how efficient their checkout process it, I don't enjoy shopping there. Everything is pretty much self service and the aisles can get a little disorganized. If I need some random cable or a cheap hard drive, I'll go to Fry's, but anything that's a more considered purchase I'll think twice.

Buying meat from a butcher is a fading tradition, but it's always a joy when you can walk up to a counter and actually talk to someone who knows what they're talking about. The Golden Gate Meat counter in the Ferry building is an efficient, friendly operation. They make their own sausages, which are delicious, and offer everything else you'd expect from a butcher.

It's no surprise that Michael Recchiuti has received so much acclaim for his chocolates since his creations are so good. This shop is one of the highlights of the Ferry Building (and there are many great shops). My girlfriend is addicted to the peanut butter pucks so we have to stop by every time we go the Ferry Building so she can get her fix. Recchuiti chocolates make great gifts for people visiting or for the holidays because they're a local product and their boxes are very nicely packaged.

It's rare that you see double features any more, but it's one of the best reasons to go to the Balboa. Even if you only see one movie, it's still a bargain compared to the chain movie theaters. They tend to show more independent movies, but will occasionally show more mainstream fare. The theater is well run and the patrons are fellow movies lovers so the cell phone and talking factor are low. It's a bit of a trip if you don't live in the Richmond, but if you're looking to hide out for an evening, what better way than watching good movies.

If you need any kind of fresh food in the Haight, this is pretty much the only game in town, unless you want to venture to the scary Cala foods at the end of Haight Street. The good news is that this little store has a wide selection of natural and organic food. I always found the produce to be fresh and they always have an interesting selection of seasonal fruit. The also carry Niman Ranch meat, which is a bonus since you don't always find meat products at a natural food store. Like any neighborhood grocery, it's not cheap, buy you're paying for convenience and in this case, natural/organic products.
