Every Wednesday night @ City Steam in Hartford PV O'Donnell (an internationally known irish filddler) and friends get together and play Irish music. There is no cover, the appetizers are fantastic (try the home made potato chips) and they brew their own beer. The musicians are simply people who live the music, so get together and play - very casual, very fun. This is the kind of thing people go to Dublin to find, but instead end up in a tourist trap.

OK, it's a used car dealership, but actually a pretty nice one. We bought a late model used car here recently, saved thousands over a dealership, comparable to a private party sale. The car was immaculate, and not an obnoxiously hard sell. Seems to be mostly eauropean imports. Saved about 50% off original (2002) sticker on a car w/ 50,000 miles. I'd go there again.

OK, I've been going to this little restaurant for years - and have brought probably 20 friends (individually at different times) who have themselves become converts. Reasonable prices and the best Vietnamese around! I am a vegetarian, but carnivore friends love the ginger chicken when I recommend it - and the veggie egg rolls are better than any I've had in Asia. Try this spot once, and you'll be sold.

About the last place I expected to find an interesting and privately owned little shop was in the tony new plaza in Canton, but what a pleasant surprise! Sometimes I find the whole country theme a bit overpowering, but here, it is barely evident. Beautiful and slightly unusual candelabra, serving dishes and various other decorative items kept me looking in every corner - and the sales staff was helpful without being pushy.

OK - I never thought I would have anything positive to say about a "doctor of which we will not speak", but I found one who makes this miserable experience less miserable. Dr. K is very approachable and actually listened to what I said!! Sort of like asking a girlfriend questions that you wouldn't want to ask just anyone, I hated going to see Dr. K much less than anyone I';ve seen before...

Let me key you in to a local gem - Truffles is not only a very good bakery, but a fantastic spot for weekend breakfast - reasonable priced, very good food. Lunch is also good, but for instance with an egg wrap, then include a small piece of coffee cake or 1/2 a muffin. Food is always good - and the maple syrup is REAL maple syrup. Personally, I also recommend trying a black and whie - though they are usually sold out
