I have been a customer of Kee Photo for many years now, and I love that they are professional while kind at the same time. They have a decent selection of backgrounds for group pictures (such as those that you could take with friends), and their photographers are definitely skilled. The only turn-off that comes to mind is that the store is very small and may seem a bit messy, but what the decor lacks the photographers do not in skill.

Paperwhirl was recommended to me by a friend a while back, and I have purchased several items there since. With unique cards not found at many other places, Paperwhirl gives customers a nice place for special greeting cards, including a wide selection of cool cards with blank insides. All of the staff members I have met there are really nice and sweet, and they even offer to help you find the cards that you are looking for. One of my top three favorite greeting card stores in San Francisco, Paperwhirl is a greeting card store unlike most of the ones that you have visited.

The staff and the lay-out may not be the best, but Rasputin has a very wide selection of underground and hard-to-find music, especially those in the hip hop genre. Rasputin has an awesome used music selection that is hard to beat, both price-wise and selection-wise. The prices at Rasputin beats the regular price of CDs sold at chain storesm such as the Virgin Megastore up the street and the Sam Goody in the San Francisco Shopping Center, so that's a plus. And they sometimes have local artists there to sign autographs and such, adding a very nice flavor to the place.

One day, while coming home from middle school years ago, I passed by a group of tourists who asked me if I knew how to get to a bookstore called City Lights. I gave them the directions, and they thanked me graciously. A few weeks after that, I met a few more tourists who was looking for a bookstore that they could not remember the name of, describing the store by using adjectives like "legendary, special, unique, famous," and "widely-known." I asked them if they were talking about City Lights, and they all nodded immediately, smiles on their faces.
At the time, I could not understand why City Lights was so popular. And then I went there about a year ago, and kicked myself for not going sooner. City Lights is a neighborhood bookstore at its best. A sweet little spot that many people will pass by without noticing, but a grand palace for those who are seeking it. City Lights is, believe it or not, a San Francisco landmark of sorts, and it's only a bookstore! Filled with history, culture, politics, tradition, and - of course - lots of quality books, City Lights is probably the only place in San Francisco you probably would not mind getting lost in.

I have been shooting at Family Billiards for years now, and have met many people at this pool hall, which happens to be my favorite pool hall in San Francisco. The price for pool is moderate, although the food is a bit pricey (items like their garlic fries are really good though). There are year-round tournaments, some open to professionals and experts, some open to novices. There are a few video arcades at Family Billiards, and you can choose your own selection of music by paying the jukebox there. The employees there are as nice as pool hall employees come, and they have employees who walk between the pool tables at all times, taking your order and picking up garbage and tidying up the place so there is barely ever a mess. Try Family Billiards, because I have a feeling you'll like it as much as I do.

There are dozens upon dozens of markets in Chinatown, but Sam & Son Market truly stands out. Unlike the super busy markets around it, Sam & Son Market is very small in size and space, but it's amazing what they can pack inside this store. Everything from newspaper to ice cream, from cold drinks to toys, and from snacks to household items are in this store. And if there's something you need that you cannot find, just ask the people who work there, who are always happy to help you in a variety of languages and Chinese dialects.

For six years a bit over a decade ago, I passed by this bookstore five days a week on my way to my elementary school. I only entered it several times then, but I still remember what a wonderful selection of children's books they have.
Several weeks ago, I passed by this bookstore while on a errand, and decided to drop in it since I haven't been there for so long. This bookstore is quite small compared to the regular bookstores I visit, such as Borders and Barnes & Nobles, but A Clean Well Lighted Place For Books is in a league of its own. Everything about this place is unique, from its name (which I absolutely love) to the types of books it carries to the authors and speakers who show up at the store occasionally.

Believe it or not, I am a really big fan of greeting cards, so I get pretty picky about which greeting cards I buy for friends. On most occasions, I spend hours shopping different stores to get my friends the perfect cards for whatever occasion it may be.
I found Avant Card by accident while walking home one day, already holding a greeting card I bought from Papyrus for a good friend of mine as her birthday was coming up. From the outside, the store didn't look too impressing. It was small, and with only three customers inside at the time and one person working, I didn't think much of it. However, as I am a fan of greeting card stores in general, I decided to pay Avant Card a little visit.
I was blown away. Unique cards that you would not find in your local drugstores, such as those by Hallmark and Carlton, were inside this very small store. Cards from witty to funny to serious were inside this store, and after several visits, it has quickly become one of my favorite greeting card stores. The atmosphere was nice enough so that you could easily take your time and read through the cards before purchasing them. The only con is that one of the salesperson I met wasn't all too friendly, but until the time of checking out, I was so immersed in the world of greeting card shopping that I really did not care too terribly.

Eastwind's slogan is "Best Source for Books on China, Asia & Asian Americans," and, try as I might, I cannot think of a better slogan for this bookstore. With a very wide variety of books covering different eras of Asian history, culture, and language, even the biggest bookworm will be satisfied in this store.
Quick Tip: Like many other stores in San Francisco's Chinatown, you can bargain with them and talk down the prices of your purchases, especially if you buy several items on the same visit.

Although I have only paid several visits to Dr. Henry S. Lee several times (and for nothing too severely, fortunately), I really like the way this dentist works and where he works. Dr. Lee is a very nice person, who seems to actually care about his patients and not just wants his patients in and out so he could make money. And the environment is really nice. The office is clean, spacious enough so that you won't get clostrofobicc, and since it's on the sixth floor of the building, you can see a really nice view of the ocean as well as skyscrapers.
