Excellent variety and selection 8/17/2005

When I think of an art house cinema, I think of the Cinematheque. They run movies continuously over the year, and they have these neat schedules that fold out to be big wall posters, so it's easy to remember when a particularly attractive film is coming up. It's housed in the Cleveland Institute of Art, so CIA students and affiliates get some sort of discount. (Also, they have a CIA ID, and don't they feel special!) There's only one screen and usually only one movie per night; the queueing is a little primitive but it works. The seats are lecture hall fare and nothing special. What really makes the Cinematheque popular and successful is its good choice of films both trendy and obscure. It's a real gem. more
