well-located in the Haight-Ashbury area of town, Faz has an incredible atmosphere if you want to smoke a hookah with some friends, or just dine on their delicious Lebanese and Mediterranean food. tried the spiced wine, but avoid the beers. They're pretty gross. You can't smoke hookah during dinner time at dinner tables (due to space constrictions), but you can sit at the bar and order some tapas-style food, and just chill. a great getaway from the bitterly cold air of San Francisco.

the RNs are pretty knowledgeable, but some of them needed help taking my blood pressure. $20 co-pay for United Healthcare. it has a clean reception room with DECENT magazines (not just Car and Driver and Good Housekeeping from 1984), and the receptionists aren't too bad. A good, easy atmosphere and conveniently located on Grove and Arrow. the office itself is a little tricky to find, but it's all right in the medical plaza, so you'll find it eventually.

You can get great half-off deals for this through Goldstarevents.com,a nd since you basically pay for anything that hasn't been sold, you're guaranteed not to be disappointed. They have a great production value and hire not only locals but also visiting SAG and AEA performers, so you're sure to get a great-quality show. Good restaurants are also nearby. OCPAC is home to several, the enormous Segerstrom Hall where most touring companies will perform. They also have a small black box and another, smaller around the back. Seats are pricey, but considering the caliber of the shows that come through, it's worth it. The mezzanines are oddly designed, so if you can spring for an orchestra seat, I highly recommend it. Student rush is available for some show a t half price, an hour before curtain (a great deal!). Visit them at www.ocpac.org.

In my opinion, this is the best thrift store in the northern Empire. It's located on the corner of Arrow Hwy and Archibald Ave (right below the Jack in the Box), and the store is always filled with good-quality goods at bargain prices. They have just about anything you could want, from clothes to movies, books, sheets, housewares, and of course, the good ol' tchotchke. The staff is very friendly, and there are always good sales going on every week, including the hang tag sale, in which a certain color hang tag on any item is only $1 (in September, it's blue). Two fitting rooms are provided and they take credit, cash, and check. Simply the best.

The MCC Thrift Store pales in comparison to the cleaner, better ventilated, and better stocked Assistance League Thrift Store in Rancho Cucamonga, but you can't be too critical of a volunteer organization. The MCC is very small and the fitting room doubles as the bathroom, and there is merchandise strewn all over to place. Their selection is rather small, but the prices might be worth it if you're willing to sift through all the stuff. If you're in the immediate area, you might want to check it out (if you're a thrift store junkie like me), but for my money, I'd go a little further east to the Assistance League thrift store.

Easily my favorite store on all of State Street (closely followed by Radd Thrift Store), Spirit's Path boasts an incredible assortment of gifts inspired by Asia, Africa, and Native America. It's my number one place for incense, and for the special neo-hippie in your life, this is the perfect place to go for a great birthday presence. They also have a great bar in the back that can mix you up a potent elixir to cure what ails ya. Also conveniently connected to the Natural Cafe.

This place is one my favorite stores on all of State Street which, if you've ever been there, is really saying something. The prices aren't' the cheapest of all thrift stores I've ever seen, but the selection can't be beat. Their bathroom doubles as a fitting room, but with all the TVs, blenders, George Forman grills, sofas, beds, and desks to look at, you won't be limited to just used clothing here. And all the TVs WORK!! Definitely a good place to check out if you're trying to furnish your insanely overprices 3-bedroom house in Isla Vista.
