This is a cool little shop that features an eclectic mix of chocolate and old-school lunch boxes. It was pretty neat to see a variety of lunch boxes, they even had a few Happy Bunny ones (my personal favorites). The owner of the store also makes prints of San Francisco street signs and has them made into tin boxes. They are really cool, and he said he can make any street sign as long as you provide the picture (and it's a workable picture). Besides that you can get your name made out of chocolate or any other variety of chocolate paraphenilia-quite a destination for any chocolate lover. If you're in the neighborhood, check it out!

I love Buffalo Exchange, it's like a thrift store with way better clothes, yet only slightly higher prices. Although, the style tends to be a little less cutesy-trendy, and more street/preppy/rockabilly, they still have killer stuff. I always have good finds there, it just requires a bit of digging. They have cheap sunglasses, and tacky jewlrey too (if you're into that sort of thing). Plus, you can trade in the clothes you don't want for cash or store credit, a great way to make some money or revamp your wardrobe!

The Friends of the Urban Forest is a non-profit aimed at helping neighborhoods plant more trees in urban city environments. They have all kinds of plantings scheduled throughout differnt districts, and you can volunteer to be a part of the plantings (and learn about trees and the process of planting and care-taking). The only catch is they only schedule plantings after an agreement has been struck to plant 30 trees in a given area (which can be a bit of a task to organize). Still they are doing great work, so be on the look out!

Global Exchange is doing some really amazing stuff, just check out their website. They do everything from reality tours to various consumer/environmental campaigns. Medea Benjamin, an activist who ran for office a few years back, is one among the great driving forces behind Global Exchange. The also have some very cool stores in San Francisco, offering all types of hand-made products from all over the world. Definitely keep your eye on this organization!

I have a friend who used to do a lot of work for this particular company, and I have seen them execute very profession, high-quality sound productions on a consistent basis. They do all different types of venues and events, whether you are looking for something for a particular event or looking to get a serious sound set up for your new business venue. They did the sound at Ruby Skye (among others) if you're curious to get a listen on the quality of sound they can produce.

Terra Mia makes very interesting ceramics. The studio is definitely worth checking out if you like ceramics at all. Some of the work is quite beautiful (though a bit expensive). I love ceramic pieces, so I really enjoyed getting to see the variety of work they have on display. Even if you're not intending on purchasing anything, it's still worth a peek in.

Located at the edge of the park on Stanyan Street, this bike shop rocks. The staff is super nice and friendly, they have a ton of supplies in stock and what they dont have they can order. Also, they do quick, on the spot bike repairs as well. Highly recommend. I'm very glad to have found a dependable place to take my bike for repairs. The staff are all very capable and knowledgable about bikes. You can't go wrong!

They're entirely independent. Meaning that they don't have a gigantic staff and offer "your glasses in 30 minutes or they're free!"....which also means that, quite often, you have to wait a few days (or a week) in order to pick them up. [[That's the bit that kept them from being tippy-top rated in my book]]....
The staff, especially the head sales associate Bill (or manager, I'm not positive)--is patient, flexible, and looks out for not only what might compliment your face the best, but also reminds you of what frames have the steepest price cuts going on. ((After a frame has entered their store, they sysematically drop prices every few months...and keep doing so until it reaches the 10-or-20$ rack)). I've purchsesd four frames there @ pretty-damn-sexy prices, have gone back to have my frames "re-adjusted" or with a minor complaint and have correspondingly received outstanding response and customer service.

While Photoworks is not the cheapest, the quality is great. Imagine film processed by people who care about film. That's Photoworks. A bit more than the 1-hour places, but worth it if you need good quality. I take my film to Photoworks. Its on Market at Church - around the corner from Chow. I know its not quite in the Mission, but close. The do good work there! Check it out!
