Downstairs you can shop for clothes and accessories, and upstairs is where you would find the and tattoo section of the store.

Heartbreaker is a hit or miss trip sometimes, but you can usually find something you want to buy. They have two floors of women's clothes and shoes (some mens downstairs). It's a pretty good selection, although some of it is just bad. The prices are decent except for the which you can expect to cost that much. Fun clothes, for going out or if you're just hip or young.

I used to shop at Mr. Shoe for hip shoes at a low price, but now you'll find that the prices have gone up. That makes it an average shoe store rather than a steal of a deal gem. You can still find shoes there on sale sometimes though. I've been disappointed with the selection of shoes in the past year or two, but if you're looking for tacky stilettos or clear plastic heeled shoes, this is the place you're looking for! Great costume shoes perhaps.

Al's deli makes you feel as if you're in a little sandwich shop in the countryside of France. It's got an old and small town feel to it that I like. There are about 3 or 4 small round tables,so it's a nice place to go with one other person, unless you're getting it to go. The sandwiches are pretty good, and everything is about $6 or $7. They bake cookies and bread fresh daily, which is also nice.

Paninos has great sandwiches; I like their Italian meat sandwiches (the Genoa is yummy if you like salami). They have a large selection of dishes, and at a pretty decent price too. It's not a cute/romantic place to go, but if you're with a friend and looking to catch a bite...And they deliver/take out, so that's another option if you're not so keen on the ambiance.

There are many dry cleaners in Evanston, but I go to Lake City Cleaners because they're open later than some of them, 6 or 7 p.m.
They also send coupons in the mail a lot of times. They're not cheap, but with the coupons, it makes it worth going. They have 89 cent men's shirt cleaning on Wednesdays also.
They do a good job, and have always been able to get something cleaned or altered for me in a really short amount of time, so if you need a job done ASAP... try them!

Northwestern University has mini-courses for both University students and non-students. They are offered a couple times during the year, and aren't too expensive. I took a belly-dancing class, and found it to be a nice introduction. They have academic, craft, and dance classes as well as some random ones like billiards and bartending.
It's worth checking out if you're looking for a new interest/hobby.

The Empty Bottle is a nice solace when you're surrounded by monotony every day. When you come here, there's life, youth, and creativity filtering through the air. Music varies, but for the most part, you'll find your alternative/indie bands. The lineups are pretty good, energetic and entertaining, and not necessarily always for the pretentious. Beware, you will find pretentious people, but aren't we all victims?
Drinks can be super cheap, and they have specials. I like that they have a raised floor area across from the stage so that everyone can try to see. It reminds me of a basement or a party, but a little more organized.

Dr. Wax has a pretty good selection of independent/local labels, so if you're looking for something you perhaps couldn't find at Best Buy, maybe you should check it out. I like how all the genres/bands are written on tabs as opposed to the printed labels at chain stores...makes the place feel a little more personable. Prices are average, but they do have some used cds as well.

Tom Thumb is the local craft supply store in Evanston, outside of specialty bead and art supply shops. The prices are average as is the selection, but compared to many other local craft shops, you could say there's a pretty decent selection here.
They have wood, paint, paper, bead, and other hobby items.
They might have what you're looking for if you're a crafter/hobbiest, but it's not organized very well so you may have to look or ask. Oh, and I think they still offer a 10% discount to Northwestern students with ID.
