They do thorough, unbiased surveys of various types of service providers, and give you enough data and guidance to jumpstart your shopping. Available on line at checkbook.org, or on paper by subscription or at most libraries. Drawback: their revenue base isn't large enough to support study of more service types, or more frequent reviews of service providers, so you may find no info or out-of-date info. However, I believe them to be more reliable than the advertising-supported alternatives in this region.
