Mirrors above the bar and window-lined walls keep this hallway of a space from feeling cramped. Lots of bench seating and cocktail tables let the after-work crowd relax, while providing enough space for night crawlers to rock out. Tea-light sconces, mahogany woodwork and crimson hanging lampshades provide warmth without feeling too put together. A trip to the restrooms provides patrons with a refreshingly pleasant experience; they're clean with stocked supplies and marble counters--more classy bistro than partied-in watering hole.

A friend and I took to the streets of SF one night in search of a new place to try. I remembered a conversation with a nice woman during last year's ski season. She told me that her son just opened a restaurant in the SoMa area called Cosmopolitan Cafe. We took a risk that definitely paid off. I found the menu and surrounding to be comfortable and intimately dazzling without too much pretense. I would definitely return with a date. The prices were reasonable compared with other options in the area. The only drawback was the noise from the bar. There was a game on and the raucous fans drowned out our conversation. We had a movie to catch anyways and the noise helped us stay focus on devouring our dessert. Check it out!

This is the greatest bar on earth if you are in the mood for a kitsch, themed tiki sensation. Got there around 5 "just for the one", left 4 or 5 hours later having not laughed so much in a bar for years. The staff are great (esp Frank behind the bar who has worked there for 29 years), the crowd friendly and the band (playing on a floating boat) play the lounge hits you would expect.
Bottom line is that if you are in the mood to drink from a pineapple you should go there. If this does not appeal then why are you thinking of going to a bar called "The Tonga Room" in the first place???

While my parents were visiting we wanted to eat in North Beach, but how to choose from the 10's of places with their meuns plastered outside and people coercing you inside? Caffe Delucchi had neither: the place is on the smaller side, as is their menu. The food was above average. I had the fresh pasta with pancetta and peas: the pasta was excellent, but the sauce was bland overall. My mother had the chicken, which was excellent, very juicy and tasty. The staff was rather friendly and helpful, and we never waited to have our water filled or our emply plates removed. It is a nice spot for two but not for a group larger than 4-5. As it does not have large menus on sandwich boards or staff reeling in the customers, Caffe Delucchi stands for itself and does so better than most on the Columbus drag.

i was visiting from LA one weekend and had time to kill with my friends so we stumbled on this place not knowing what to expect. At first we thought it was a gay bar because it was such a sausage-fest. but by 10:30p the girls flowed in and it turned into a great night. definitely some great eye-candy here. dj was okay and service was a little slow. we met a bunch of girls here...ironically they were also from LA. i'd go again next time i'm in SF.

White curtains drape the wooden entrance, while champagne-themed artwork decorate the interior's exposed-brick walls. Dapperly dressed singles and couples representing several generations lounge on red-velvet couches (illuminated by candlelight), or mingle at the lengthy back bar. The Krug, an intimate downstairs space with white-stucco walls and low ceilings, features a second bar, additional seating and a red-felt pool table.
Nice place - very romantic and cozy. Perfect for a night out and just what we were looking for, relaxing and a great bar selection.

This bar and lounge occupies the entire 39th floor and consists of two large rooms, each stuffed with chairs and tables strategically placed in view-friendly spots. There's a piano for live jazz and a gigantic, semicircular, jukebox-shaped window in each room offering views over the Bay Bridge (to the east), and Twin Peaks and City Hall (to the west). Specialty cocktails include the Raspberry Cookie--Vox raspberry vodka, Jägermeister, butterscotch schnapps, Bailey's and Goldschlager
It's all about the view from the top. Drinks are average, but pricey. Service was pretty slow even though the place wasn't crowded.

W Hotels are notorious nationwide for their über-hip bar scenes and San Francisco's XYZ is no exception. Silver-beaded doors open up into a long rectangular room dominated by an illuminated bar that changes color every few seconds. This is pricey to maintain, so the mixed drinks aren't cheap. Excellent mojitos, the house specialty, go for $10. The crowd is the see-and-be-seen set more associated with Los Angeles than San Francisco. Insiders don their blackest black outfit, keep a cell phone pinned to their ear, pretend to be important and fit right in. friend and I went here for drinks and chatting. It was perfect, we got there before any club kids so it wasn't crowded until later. You do have to go outside the hotel to smoke, which was a little annoying - but the waitress was nice to make sure we still has our spots when we came back. The martini's were great. The bathrooms were clean. The seats were comfy. You couldn't ask for more. Yeah, the drinks are about $10, but just get one with a lot of alcohol and soon you won't care!

Ian Schrager, the man behind New York City's '70s glam-club Studio 54, is responsible for putting the shine on this swanky destination. Amid soaring ceilings and polished redwood walls, businessmen scope well-heeled eye candy and vie for busy bartenders' attention. Amorphous wall art appears on a handful of plasma-screen TVs and designer couches line the perimeter, resting atop tiger-striped carpet

During early evenings, The Social Club serves upscale pub grub to casual 20- and 30-somethings. At night, tables are cleared for DJs or live musicians to take over. On popular nights (typically Fri-Sat), a back room with a second bar and dance floor opens up. Owners are in the process of revamping both the look and the pub grub menu -- check back for details.
my friends and i went to have dinner and drinks and 1751 Social Club and it was great. The food was terrific and the prices were so reasonable. If you have a chance to go there I recommend the Fresa martini and the lime mojito chicken wings. So Yummy! Also stay afer to listen to a great dj and dance with your friends!
