At Cranky Pat's you can basically get the same pizza you may have loved from the now defunct Frank and Pat's. Cranky Pat's specializes in thin crust pizzas. They don't serve gourmet pizzas, just your old fashioned pepperoni, sausage, green pepper and onion and the like. The restaurant is big and dark and has about as much ambiance and Frank and Pat's had. The servers are friendly and the pizza is really good. It think they are a bit over-priced. For a neighborhood pizza place, though it's great.

Agua Verde is excellent and therefore very popular. Expect to wait in line. It's a little chaotic to get in there, find the line, put your name down, order drinks, get your table, etc. The restaurant is in a little "beach shack" with multiple small rooms, a deck and a nice screened in porch on the water. The best dish they had, in my opinion, were the shrimp tacos, which they no longer served. I still crave those tacos all the time. All their food is pretty authentic. The salsa bar and margaritas are the high-lights. I would recommend the fajitas and for sure try their spicy mashed potatoes. The prices are very reasonable and the wait staff friendly.

Wild Child is on Monroe Street in the shopping area, not far from the stadium. It carries infant to toddler clothes and some toys, diaper bags etc. The clothes are mostly cottons and screenprints. They are very wearable and great for play and every day clothing. They are mostly bright, primary colors with bright patterns or images. My mom bought my nephews two really cute t-shirts with a creen print of a robot on them. The designs are all really original and I don't think you can find most of the clothes anywhere else. would say this is a great place to shop for toddlers. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

The Orpheum is located in State Street and has recently gone through a major rehab. You can now get more than the usual movie experience. They serve beer and wine and excellent food. The historical integrity of the theater has been maintained but the sound and picture have been updated. This is a key site for the Madison Film Festival. They have excellent midnight movie specials and in general, have an excellent selection of arthouse and indie films. The theater also serves as a music venue and boasts excellent acoustics.

This is a great but cramped record shop. Employees are ultra-knowlegeable and pretty cool if you get to know them, but can be off-putting. Mostly new CDs here, plus box-sets and music DVDs. There used to be vinyl LPs but they have been phasing these out a bit. Prices are great and this is the best music-shopping near campus, for sure. They have great sales and some very interesting memorabilia inside the shop from past artists who have visited. This is a State Street standard, an independent business that deserves to remain on State Street.

Greenlake jewelers is an old-fashioned jeweler in that the craftsmen and women work right there in front of your eyes. They specialize in custom jewelry and can creat whatever you have in mind. If you don't already have something in mind they have lots and lots of books to look through that show other people's and designers' creations. The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They will take pains to work within your budget and timeframe. They seem to take great pride in every piece and will answer all your questions happily. This is a fun place to look around, even if you're not in the market for jewelry, but just out for a stroll on Greenlake.

74th Street Ale house really can't be beat for moderately priced gourmet pub food. The ambiance is purposefully reminiscent of an English neighborhood pub. This is a neighborhood place without a doubt. The staff takes pains to get to know you and you'll see your neighbors there again and again if you live in the neighborhood, not to say that others won't enjoy it just as much. Their rotating list of beers on tap is outstanding. The small, but perfect menu, offers standards, including their famous chicken sandwich, as well as a nightly specials list that usually included a pasta and fish selection. 74th street is my favorite place to eat in Seattle, hands down.

The Fremont Antique Mall is actually in the basement level of a group of shops in the heart of Fremont (Near Starbucks, kiddie-corner from Jive Time Records). We love the funky Fremont Antique Mall for their odd furniture, clothes, and books, but the real score here are the LPs that various sellers have stashed away down here. Overstock, un-wanted LPs pile up here and there are some great treasures to be had. Specifically, Jive Time Records uses the Fremont Antique Mall as their "annex" with tons of extra LPs that simply won't fit at their Fremont location. Especially, Classic Rock LPs seem to stack up here for some reason. So, if you're into "thrifting" and enjoy "picking" records, you MUST include the Fremont Antique Mall in your thrift store circuit.

Greenwood Academy of Hair is a training center for future Aveda stylists and beauty specialists (including colorists, massueses, manicure/pedicure, etc). It is inexpensive and practical. It isn't difficult to get an appointment. Students perform the services under strict supervision from instructors. I found that the students do an extra-special job of listening to what YOU the customer wants because although they may be confident in their skills, they don't want to mess up your 'do. Thus, it can take a long time while they snip snip away your hairy hair. There is also a lot of commotion in the shop. One factor that may play into your decision on whether or not to make an appointment is that the stylists do eventually graduate - so you'll have to find a new recruit!

Frankie is a small shoe boutique in Fremont. A great place to stop if shopping with friends in the area. You might come to window shop, but you'll probably end up bringing something home. Girls will enjoy the casual and formal gear. Guys too, no doubt will find the selection to be happening. They stock only the hippest brands; Camper, Diesel, Etc. Really great service and quality. Yeah, the prices are high, but you're not going to find these shoes elsewhere, and you'll enjoy handing your money over at Frankie.
