This is a small surf shop in Encinitas. They shape high quality surfboards, and have prices that are very competitive. You can also rent foam surfboards if you are a beginner and would like to learn without killing yourself in the process. They also sell other surf related products such as wetsuits, accessories, wax and tide charts. Of course, they also have many selections for women as well. With the growing population of female surfers, they are up to speed with the trends.

Pizza Port is right on Pacific Coast Blvd. across from the train station in Solana Beach. This place is always crowded with young surfers and families. There are a few large screen TV's that usually play surf or skate videos. The ceiling has surfboards hanging from the rafters. WIth a good pizza, a beer goes down like water. They brew some of their own beers on site, and have a nice selection. A few video games to keep the kids busy while you suck down another beer. Very casual.

I asked myself that very question. This hidden location is home to the very best Italian cuisine in East San Diego. With many Italians living in San Diego, it is hard to say that one restaurant is the best. I can say this for Ciao Bella. You must make a reservation if you even want to eat there. Weekends are very busy, and there is not a lot of seating. Try the spinach salad, and the prosciutto with melon. Molto Bene! The servers are all speaking (yelling) in Italian just like at home!

This is like a dream come true. Kobey's Swap Meet has been around for years, and is a perfect place to find stuff you never needed and waste a weekend day away while you are at it. I personally love to go to the back isles of the swap meet to find the real deals. Albums, surfboards, antiques, artifacts, jewelry, arts and crafts can all be found there. Similar to Tijuana, you can haggle with them. Towards the end of the day (3pm) you can find some desperate sellers looking to get rid of stuff instead of packing it back up.

Hard to imagine, but it is true. Personally, I don't like the idea of sushi sitting there waiting to be eaten, I like freshly prepared sushi. This can happen if you are in line when they place something out, but most of it sits for a while. There is also a wide selection of other foods to compliment the sushi bar. They have crab legs, great deserts, and hot foods. The also serve special salads. The catch is the price. For lunch, plan on spending about $20 a head, more with an alcoholic drink. Dinner is slightly more expensive.

Folk Arts Rare Records is a privately owned record shop. The store is filled to the gills with albums only, no CD's or tapes. The owner has one of the most comprehensive collections of 78's in the world. His store is a museum of sorts, and he makes copies of these rare albums by request and makes them available for purchase. The pictures on the walls show the history (most with famous patrons). It is hard to find what you want because it is so tight. Also, don't let him think you really want something. There are no prices posted, he charges what he thinks you will pay for it!

Movies have really progressed over the years, or have they? The Museum of Photographic Arts is a great place to learn about the history of movies and the changes they have survived through the years. My girlfriend and I had a chance to attend an all night event that showed movie trailers from the 60's and 70's. There were Hitchcock trailers for Psycho and The Birds, and other classics. The event opened our eyes to the fact that the style has completely changed. Current trailers almost tell the whole movie in 15 seconds, the classics were able to create suspense and intrigue without giving away the plot.

Lou's records is the largest independent music store in San Diego. Tower Records and other chains don't even compare to their wide selection. Along with the variety of genres, this location has live performances of local and national acts. Some of the shows will fill up the entire parking lot with music fans. There are to buildings, one with vinyl and one with tapes/CD's. Looking for a Bauhaus album, or Nina Haagen? these guys will have it or will know where to locate it.

I tried to utilize these guys to complete the interior of my 67 Jaguar 420. While dragging their feet for weeks they managed to screw a bunch of things up. First they closed the garage door on my car that had just had a $6000 paint job. this left a significant dent on the front of my car. Then there was a rat that was living on my engine, pissing and permanently staining the aluminum head on my engine while chewing through electrical. Then they told me a part I had was incorrect, I reordered the part and it was the same. They just didn't know how to do the work. I don't suggest these guys to anyone who cares about the quality.

Balboa park is located in the middle of San Diego, east of Downtown. Home to multiple museums and historic buildings, Balboa park is the perfect place for a stroll with a date, or loved one. This is a great place to bring the family also, with plenty of attractions. There is a rose and cactus garden, a Koi pond, a giant fountain, an archery field, and a the Organ Pavilion to name a few. Right next to the world famous San Diego Zoo, you can hear the sounds of wild animals while walking through Balboa Park.
