My roommate's family took me to the classy Casa de Bandini in Old Town's Bazaar del Mundo sometime in college, and it is probably one of the most festive dinners I have ever experienced. Patrons head to one of various bistro tables to enjoy drinks while waiting for their table. There is plenty to see, with the building being a large previous home that has been preserved as a historic landmark. Dinner is served in three elegant dining rooms or the beautifully decorated central courtyard filled with trees, music, and flowers. I highly recommend their margaritas.

I was brought to Andres, located in the outskirts of Old Town, for a goodbye party before a coworker returned to Peru and had some of the most unique and tasty food in the area. As far as I know, there are not too many places in San Diego that specialize in this type of food. I especially loved the plantains! The atmosphere is culturally representative and casual.

Spicy City is not for the weak stomach! While there are some mild dishes there for those who cannot handle hot foods, they are known for their entrees that bite back. I can handle spiciness extremely well, and there were still things we ordered that challenged my limits. Be prepared to drink a lot of water! Do not be fooled by the spiciness, as you may think that may cover food of mediocre quality. The food tastes great!

The Godfather is hidden in a small strip mall located near the Asian district of San Diego, so it was a very pleasant surprise when I walked in for my friend's birthday celebration. It is better to dress nicely to fit the restaurant atmosphere, which is fancy but also welcoming and friendly. The service is great, and we were given complementary appetizers that were plates of delicious fried zucchini. The birthday dinner was a big hit!

The Original Pancake House has become a favourite breakfast spot for myself, friends, and my family when they visit. Their menu includes all the traditional breakfast foods that you can order in a lot of places, but somehow they make everything taste better! They also have more fun things, like fruit or chocolate chip pancakes and dutch babies pancakes made in a special oven. Their hot chocolate comes richly decorated in whipped cream and chocolate chips. I can't wait to go back again!

Ever since college, I have been going to Seoul BBQ for my Korean food fix. This is a very family friendly establishment, and I have always gotten great service here. My friends and I always order tastily marinated chicken and beef bulgogi for grilling at the table. The variety of side dishes are delicious, with potato salad and soybean sprouts being our favourites. Everyone receives a cooling dessert drink after their big dinner, and the option of picking an orange to go.

Korea House was a newer discovery of my San Diego. I had avoided it in college because I had been warned it was more expensive than Seoul BBQ down the street. My family and I went to Korea House one day because the other line was too long, and we discovered that while the prices are a bit higher, the quality of the food definitely makes it worthwhile. There are also two grilling tables on the side especially for accomodating large groups.

Niban used to be a favourite dinner outing for my friends and me in college. They made good teriyaki and had a great deal on dinner combos. We stopped going there for a while in protest when they started charging extra for drinks but have certainly gone back since. It is still one of the more popular student destinations.

While I usually go to the smaller First Korean Market because it is my personal tradition from college, the Zion Marketplace is another great place to find all your Korean grocery needs. The feel is more like a supermarket than a family owned business, but it is a much bigger store and therefore has a larger inventory. I particularly like their premade side dishes.
