Anyone who knows Julian is familiar with its famous apple pies, baked fresh daily and exported to cities and towns nearby. The VA hospital by UCSD hosts a stand selling them occasionally, as does the local Albertsons. My boyfriend and I headed to the source one day on a trip to Julian, and we were not disappointed. The pies taste even better when you are in the quaint little town, and be sure to add a scoop of cinnamon ice cream to your slice of crumb topped apple pie.

Cha for Tea is a unique little tea house that also serves great meals. Most people just drop in for a bubble tea to go, but I stopped by one day for lunch with my boyfriend. It smelled so good from outside that we couldn't resist grabbing a table. The menu is traditional Chinese, and the taste is authentic and tasty. It's an especially great spot for UCI students because the location is across the street from campus.

Tapioca Express is thus far my favourite place for bubble tea in Irvine. My boyfriend and I stop there often when we visit my sister or just meet in Irvine. Open late, it is the perfect place to pick up some caffeine before driving home or to have some snacks late at night to carry you over until morning. I love their spicy chicken and honey milk tea, hot or cold. The decor is very much like a coffeehouse, with large comfortable couches, little bistro tables, and modern lighting. They provide books, games, and magazines for perusal.

Most college students should know how great Marie Callender's frozen pot pies taste when you heat them up in your microwave, but wait until you taste the real thing! The Marie Callender's in Irvine is one of my sister's favourite places to go when I visit and feed her in college. The crowd tends to be older, and the atmosphere is generally calm, but people are very friendly to patrons of all ages. In the mornings you can request a custom made omelette or make your own waffles, but my favourite time to be there is for dinner. Everything is great, and don't forget to order dessert because their pies are amazing! Our favourite is the seasonal strawberry pie that they make during summer months.

Taiko is another great place to visit in Irvine for authentic Japanese food. For sushi lovers, there is a complete sushi bar where you can sit and watch chefs make your orders right in front of you. The chefs are very skilled and have a few tricks up their sleeves to impress those in front of them. Otherwise, you can sit at regular tables and order from the menu. Everything I can remember tastes great!

My aunt brought my family to this beautiful Japanese restaurant on one of our last visits to Irvine. The elegance of Kitayama is evident as soon as you approach the entrance from the parking lot, walking across a stone path surrounded by a calming landscape. Inside the windows look out to either a decorated courtyard or the front waterscape where traditional drummers come out to perform on and around the bridge. Patrons are seated at little tables for smaller parties or partitioned rooms for larger ones. The surroundings add to the food itself, which is delicious.

Seoul Garden is one of my absolute favourite places to eat! My family discovered it when we helped my younger sister move in when she started college at UCI. The buffet includes soups, fully cooked foods, and the usual side dishes as well as marinated meats that you pick up to grill at your own table. Lettuce leaves are provided to make wraps, and there are lots of fruits to enjoy after your main courses. Everything is delicious, so definitely check out this place!

McGrath's Fish House is located on the corner of an entrace to the Santa Anita Fashion Park mall. My boyfriend and I stopped by for lunch on the way to some gaming fun at Dave and Busters on day. I had a great meal of clam chowder and halibut parmesan. The walls are decorated with various sea creature models and maritime memorabilia. The service takes a while but the food is well worth the wait.

U2 Cafe was a passing stop for a group outing back to San Diego from the annual California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. It is a bit fancier than the Korean tofu houses to which I am accustomed, and I believe that it is actually open twenty four hours a day. An appetizer fish comes with each serving of tofu soup as well as the usual assortment of side dishes. I would definitely stop by again.

This is another great place for Chinese dim sum. However, this restaurant has some more unique options, and things operate a little differently here. Because the floor space is somewhat limited, you order your dim sum and have it taken out to you instead of choosing from carts being pushed around the tables. Though I object to their shark dumpling for animal loving reasons, their food overall is quite tasty.
