Their show room is kind of small and half of the stuff they don't have on display to try but rather just have catalogs for. They can pretty much order anything and if it isn't on sale you can expect to pay full retail value. The salespeople are experienced and don't work on commission like at other places.

Barona billboards are everywhere in San Diego, and with good reason -- it's a great casino. The recent renovation and facelift have improved this San Diego relic. They now have a huge non smoking area, penny slots and an expanded buffet. It is about a 25 minute drive from downtown San Diego. They also have a card room with Texas Hold 'em poker. The casino is clean and has a lot of machines. On the weekends you might find people playing more than one machine or all the machines are full.

I don't know very much about the American Legion but saw their Bingo night sign one day when I was driving by. Being a younger guy I thought it would be cool to try it as it is usually geared towards older folks. Well we got a group together and it was just as much fun as we have when we play poker. It cost about $15 or so a person for 2 hours worth of entertainment and we knew the money went to good cause.

SOMA is home to a lot of touring national acts. The building is in a strip mall and the actual place is a converted movie theater. Not much attention was paid to the acoustic, while the sound system is decent, the building wasn't ever really remodelled to upgrade it. There are a lot of bands that play here and the clientele is mostly high school age thru mid twenties.

Home Brew Mart is one of the catalysts that got me turned on to home beer brewing. This store is connected to the Ballast Point Brewing Company, which supplies San Diego with some of the finest micro brewed beer in the county. They are know for their Yellowtail Ale, and Marlin Porter. The ingredients they sell are the same ones they use to brew with. They carry Wyeast and White Labs pitchable liquid yeast, and Munton's extract if you do extract brewing. A good selection of grains (munich, crystal malt) and more. If you are a beginner they have tons of startup kits under $80 that can get you going.

Blowout Video is a good alternative to the large video rental chains. They have a ton of independent, and classic movies. A drawback is half of their business comes from their adult section, so there are some shady characters lurking about. Usually once a month they have their used video sidewalk sale and they have DVDs for around $5. Their regular rental prices are cheaper than Blockbuster but they are only per a single night.

Tecolote Canyon Golf Course is not well maintained by any means -- lots of burned out patches of grass. But management is pretty lax about the players on the course and pretty much anything goes within reason. It is a non-confrontational stepping stone for a beginning golfer. The pro shop is decent but kind of small, and they have golf carts for rent as well. Prices are pretty cheap all day and even less expensive at the moonlight tee times.

Belmont park is like a modern version of the old-time beach boardwalk. They have an arcade where you can win prizes for getting tickets, a big landmark vintage rollercoaster, and tons of places to eat. They just opened the Flowrider which is like a wave pool for surfriders. Basically it is a neverending surf tube that you can surf until you wipe out. Also they have the Plunge which is a large indoor heated pool. During the summer they screen movies and you can be in the pool and watch them on the screen. Great for kids.
