This "Spanish-style" art village was built in the 1930s and each artist has their own spot in this collaborative ensemble. I'd recommend going to check out this spot more for its historic value than for the quality of the art. Most of the paintings are overpriced and the subject matter isn't as serious as many other galleries (i.e. dolphins, sunsets, etc.) Nonetheless there are some studios here which are very interesting like the San Diego Enameler's Guild.

Avalon is revered the nation over and is well-known for their stellar work and world-class artists. Although they are most expensive than other less known tattoo shops, their work stands for itself. Avalon is particularly known for their retro tattoos which include the Sailor Jerry-type. I'd highly recommend anyone consider this shop if they are thinking about getting their first tattoo or adding another one to the collection.

Solid Rock is the kind of workout you don't even know you are doing because you are having so much fun. If you don't have your own equipment, it is very much like the bowling alley where they tack on charges for additional items (the belayer, shoe rental, chalk bag, etc.) As mentioned they do change the layout of the holds so if you go here once a month it is completely different each time. They offer memberships as well which reduce the costs further. It is recommended you go here with a partner to spot you.

If you are looking for used sports gear like snowboards, surfboards or golf clubs, look no further than Play It Again Sports. I went here to get an $80 bike rack for my car for only $15. They also take trade-ins, so you can trade in your old bats, cletes and what not to get store credit towards used gear. They also have a large selection of brand new items as well.

Located in San Diego's Little Italia - this place looks ultra-posh and ultra-expensive from the outside, but it is actually quite affordable. Even more so, if you just go here for after dinner coffee and dessert. They have tiramisu, cannolis, Italian wedding cookies, cheesecake, gelato and a whole slew of coffee beverages. Cappuchinos run only about $2 for a large, and $2.50 for a latte. The atmosphere is upscale, and they have several televisions mounted so you can watch the game as well.

I knew exactly what I wanted when I went into Drew Hyundai. The sales agent never made me feel pressured and was very agreeable to negotiation. I got an excellent deal on my purchase, and I feel fully supported by the company even after purchase. I've also dealt with their parts department and they are all very friendly, pay attention to detail and give you their full undivided attention. I would recommend them over all other San Diego Hyundai dealers.

We took our Siamese cat here when he had a urinary tract infection. The doctor did a full examination, gave him an antibiotic shot, and prescribed antibiotic pills. The total including the coupon we got from the pennysaver came out to less than $50. It gave us the piece of mind that our cat was okay. The doctor even called us personally a week later to followup and make sure our pet was doing okay.

The Newport Avenue Antique Center is like an antique mega-mall. At least 8 or more aisles of consigned boothes with everything from 80s to 20s antiques. Collectibles, furniture, clothing, books, records, you name it, they have it. There is also a small cafe in the back of the store that serves coffee, soft drinks and snacks. The prices here are generally ticketed high, but most vendors usually have sales going on (i.e. 20% off) so don't expect to pay what is listed. Also you can haggle with prices on high ticket items.

Just Fabulous Pastries specializes in European style desserts and pastries. They do not have a real storefront here, but rather mostly do catering, weddings and special orders. They also recently opened up a shop on Adams Avenue called Just Fabulous Kensington which serves more to the general public.

This museum is located in Balboa Park. The last time we were at the Museum of Photographic Arts they had a tintype photo exhibition -- where old photos were painted over to create little interesting creatures. They also displayed the works of Lewis Carroll. Other exhibits they usually run are Mexico/Tijuana border documentary photos from the 1940s and 1950s. They also frequently screen classic movies in their screening room. The museum is fairly small, but the exhibits are usually information and entertaining. There is a small gift shop as well.
