If you love music as much as I do, you'll definitely want to check out the concerts at the Verizon Wireless Theater. Upcoming performances include The Used (yes!), The Allman Brothers, George Carlin, Rob Thomas, Hall & Oates, and Billy Idol. Not only are there a variety of seats to choose from, but the venue is located in middle of the theater district, so there are countless other activities close by that you can partake in.

I've heard mixed reviews about this place. While it's a great venue for rock, pop, and alternative bands to showcase their music, the sound quality is subpar and the service could undergo some improvements. However, if none of that bothers you, feel free to check out the place. Upcoming performances: OK Go (8/23), Aquabats (8/25), The Doves (9/23), and LCD Soundsystem (10/28).

Sure, KFC and Popeye's are great, but where do you go to get the best fried chicken in the city? According to all my friends, it's Frenchy's. Situated near the University of Houston campus, people have been flocking to its eatery since the '60s. Order the 5-piece with a side of rice and beans. If you're still not full, try the bread pudding or peach cobbler. Frenchy's may appear sparse and unpretentious, but don't underestimate their flavorful chicken and Cajun sides.

Host to a wide range of shows and exhibits, the George R. Brown Convention Center is located in the downtown area. I participated in a Drug Prevention Program here and had a good time at the NFL Experience back when Superbowl XXXVIII was in town. The place is immense and there are many events that take place here often. Upcoming events include the Int'l Martial Arts Festival and the Easy Riders Custom Motorcycle Show.

Attention, musicians: whatever your needs, H & H has got it. Purchase a new guitar or orchestal instrument. I rented my viola here when I used to play in junior high. They even have a great policy that returns the money you spent on renting your instrument when you buy a brand new one. Other things I've bought: sheet music, rosin for my bow, and a metronome. The only complaint I have is that the staff could be more knowledgeable.

Support the performing arts by catching a play at the Alley Theater. I saw one called "Cantinflas" about the famous Mexican actor/comedian a few years ago, and although I had difficulty following everything they said in Spanish, I loved it. The room I was in was small and cozy, making me feel as though I was on stage with the actors. Hurry up and get your tickets now.
