Muléh, which means "to come home" in Javanese, was originally a South Asian furniture store, and now also sells women's clothing. The furniture is eco-friendly and has sleek and modern lines and designs. The furniture is minimalistic but looks really cool, with focus on the textures of the furnishing. Because of the eco-friendliness, it feels very earthy - I get a feeling of peace looking at the furniture.
The clothing is also cool and unique. The South Asian theme doesn't carry into the clothes. These are simply trendy, modern clothes that you wouldn't find in a department store.
Muléh is right off U street and next to some other really cool stores including Home Rule and Go Mamma Go. This area is a cool place to look around and decorate your space - it's all so funky and fun.

Dr. Foster is the best dentist I've had, and I've tried several since moving too far away to still see Dr. Foster. He's extremely friendly and always takes his time to make sure you're teeth are all good. His staff is knowledgeable and also friendly. My family and I have been going to him for 10+ years and have never had any complaints. The office space is bright and friendly, and the equipment is pretty much new. Everything is in good condition and the office overall feels very welcoming.

Lockmans is a small shop that's very convenient to go to when you need an extra key made. They're very knowledgeable and can help you out on a variety of different key types, e.g., if your car key has a special chip in the head of it. They can let you know right away if anything extra will need to be done. They're also good to call if you have lock problems and need to get something unlocked. They're very reliable and friendly. There's plenty of parking since they're located in a shopping center, and they're also on the Elmwood strip which is always a conveneint place to get to.

Mondo is an independent video rental place that all the independent and foreign flicks you'd want. They carry documentaries like Bush's Brain, and other uncut foreign and independent films that you won't find in your typical video rental store. Of course you won't be able to find your Hollywood videos here, but if you're looking for those types of movies, you're looking in the wrong place. The owner of Mondo is a movie buff and writes film reviews for the local independent publication, Artvoice. If you're ever in need of something different, intellectually stimulating, or hard to find, head straight to Mondo. Warning that parking may be hard to find. But it's on the Elmwood strip, so you can always walk to it.

Everything Elmwood is one a gift shop on the Elmwood strip carrying items you probably won't find anywhere else. They are all unique and you'll probably find something new each time you go. They carry items you can use to decorate your house, little books, some fashion accessories like scarves and jewelry, gift cards, bags, and little trinkets. They have a variety of things, so it's fun to just browse through it all. It's a great place to buy gifts since you're pretty much guaranteed to find something unique - and there's free gift-wrapping.

Ujima is a very small theatre whose productions primarlily reflect the lives of African-Americans. It's located right on the Elmwood Strip in a small theatre setting. The theatre works to develop talent and is dedicated to the community as well, with workshops and theatre experience for youth in the local area. It is also the only professional theatre company in WNY that is dedicated to the development and presentation of work by persons of color.
The shows are very well done and the actors, actresses, and staff have such a passion for their work. This is definitely reflected in the productions. The community that goes are all there to support the theatre company and there's a welcoming feeling of familiarity and family, even if you haven't been before.

While the JCC is primarily a community center, they have a great gym. The membership is at such a great price, especially if you have a corporate discount. For a single person on a corporate discount, it works out to about $22/month. WIthout, it's still less than $30. The gym has all the equipment you'd expect - Precor weight machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. They have many free classes, some where you have to pay, a pool, a basketball court, and you can also hire personal trainers. Because this isn't a standard gym, the environment is very friendly - meaning you don't have meatheads or other crazed body builders. It's also not a meat market. The staff is great and very friendly. This is definitely a great place to go.

This is probably one of the best of the Smithsonians (though they're all good). This museum is really large with so many cool and lifesize displays of ancient and extinct animals from different eras. There's insects, modern animals, an aquatic section - all with animal displays. Aside from that, there's a large display of minerals and fossils, with the most notable being the Hope Diamond - the largest blue diamond found.
This museum is located right on the National Mall and is very close to many of the other Smithsonians. It's also close to many of the memorials, so it's a great place to stop and take a look around. Be warned though, because it's got lots of displays and things you can touch, there's lots of kids and families running around.
