This club was owned by Johnny Lee Hooker. It is a small venue and gets really packed since they bring in great music. The drinks are strong and the atmosphere is very groovy. If you see a show at the Fillmore and still have energy left, swing by the Boom Boom Room (with your Fillmore ticket stub in hand). Often times, the same band you saw at the Fillmore will come by to do a late night show.

The Fillmore is a great place to see live music in San Francisco. They always have great shows and have hosted bands ranging from Tom Petty to the Grateful Dead. One of my favorite things to do while waiting for the main show to come on is to walk around and look at all the amazing photographs of everyone who has played at the Fillmore. They serve food upstairs, but no one comes for the food -- just for the music.

We had Nancy Hall from California Closets come out when we first moved into our new house. The closets were terrible in the two bedrooms. She discussed our needs and then gave us choices. Within 2 weeks, we had new closets. I think they did a pretty good job, but she didn't give us any space to hang long things. I think this was a mistake on her part.

We used Lorenzo from Master Refinisher to turn our ugly green sink and tub to a nice white finish. He did a good job and guaranteed his work for a year. I did call him a few months after he finished the job to come back and fix some chips. The worst part about this process is that it makes your whole house smell for a few days. One concern to note... I gave his number to a friend and he didn't call back for several days.

Creative Paint and Wallpaper is a great place to buy Benjamin Moore paint as well as other good brands. The people who work their are very knowledgeable and helpful. So much better than going to a big chain like Sherwin Williams. Creative Paint also carries light bulbs and other basic hardware items. I have always received great customer service here. Parking along Geary is usually pretty easy.

I have been using Costa House Cleaning for almost 10 years. One woman runs the business and has several people working for her. They are reliable and very trustworthy. You really need to be clear and specific when explaining what to do. Everybody has their quirks and keep in mind they are not mind readers. I've had to explain several things two or three times, but they eventually get it. They speak Portuguese -- not Spanish.

Bryan's carries quality meat, chicken and fish. Most people in SF agree that this is the best place to buy the highest quality steak, chicken and fish. The prices are high, but worth it. The store is beautiful and well organized. The meat store is separate from the grocery store which carries all your basics. Personally, I would never buy cereal or detergent at Bryan's -- way too expensive. They take-out section is pretty good, but pricey.

My husband swears by these guys. He has been taking his Volkswagen there for almost 10 years. They are reliable, honest, and do really good work. You need to call to book an appointment -- it is hard to get in last minute. If you only have to leave your car for an hour or so, Cole Street is a great place to grab coffee or a meal.
