My hubby loves Pho (pronounced Fuh). It's a Vietnamese soup that you typically have when it's hot and humid out and when you have the soup you sweat and if you catch a good breeze it cools you off. Well, we both like to have this at any time and Pho Bang is a good place to get it. Don't be alarmed by the loud Vietnamese music and lots of fake greenery in the restaurant...that's the typical appeal. They have a variety of Pho soup that are delicious with all the condiments for you like jalapenos, cilantro, basil and mint. The spring rolls are also one of the best things on the menu along with their sauce.

Manila Oriental Foodmart carries everything you can possibly think of as far as Asian foods go. I go when we plan on making some Vietnamese food like Pho (pronounced Fuh) and spring rolls. I do feel out of my element because all the local Asians go there and speak Asian (normally Vietnamese) and I'm a fair skinned gal looking to buy Pho broth and Sriracha sauce (LOL) but they treat you just the same there. They have anything you need for Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese meals and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. They also have a small produce market there. Prices for things here are worth the trip rather than paying too much for it as a specialty item at your local grocery store.

Mixteca is one of the many Mexican restaurants in Phoenix that has Ceviche...a food that has fish, shrimp and some other varieties of seafood "cooked" by lime juice with a small amount of tomatoes and onions. The kind I typically have is with shrimp. You can get a good size cup (20 oz?) filled to the brim with it along with tostadas for $11. Yes, it sounds like a lot but it's worth paying for it if you don't know how to make it or don't have the time to make it.

There are a couple reasons I won’t give a perfect rating to this business. 1)The cost of our visits. Every vet does charge the same, at least where I go, but it’s just one of those expenses that hits you out of the blue. “I’m sorry, how much did that just cost?” LOL And 2) when we paid over $400 for the doctor to fish out a foxtail in my dogs chin (pretty darn painful I might add) and nothing was found. Actually, some of it was for some antibiotics but that didn’t seem to help. Actually my hubby and his brother managed to get the foxtail out with success a week later. I have never worked in a vet’s office but it still sounds ridiculous to pay so much when a remedy is not reached for my dog in this circumstance. 3) When I took my very old cat (she lived to be 20) to the vet a couple years ago the vet suggested I get all this dental work done with her. There was nothing that needed to be done because of cavities but it was just preventative things which would cost a few hundred dollars. Needless to say I didn’t do it and my cat passed away in December of other causes.
Now that I got the bad points out of the way…. LOL
Up until last December we had 1 dog and 3 cats. My oldest had to be put down and I wanted to save her remains. It was a tough time because I was 36 weeks pregnant and I had Maddie since she was a little kitten. My hubby brought her in and the nurses took care of her. Previous times Maddie had been there they thought she was the greatest, they took a picture of her and gushed over how regal and beautiful she was so I knew they would take care of her. Well, a week later I had my son and we were in a financial crunch for a while with my new little guy around. During that time we were sent a bill from the offices and we couldn’t pay it for over a month. I never received another statement, but instead a card signed by all the nurses for Maddie. They also sent a booklet on how to grieve for your pet. I was taken back and very appreciative of that.
As for all of our other pets the hospital sends us notices for when the pets are due for there shots and they are treated very well. I never doubt the humane way they handle them. We just had a bad experience once and hated paying so much for it.

The OB/GYN that I had been going to said she wouldn’t be doing any OB appointments for a while. This was disappointing because I like her a lot and I was planning on starting a family with my hubby that next year. So I searched around for a decent OB/GYN, preferably a she, and found one in Paradise Valley, about 10 minutes from home. It turned out that particular doctor wasn’t doing OB either but a new doctor just started there, Dr. Judith Mead. She is probably in her 40’s and very personable and easy to talk to. She was always open to answering any questions and concerns I had. The nursing staff there is also wonderful too.

Filibertos is a chain of Mexican food restaurants in AZ and CA. For a chain, they have some of the best authentic Mexican food I’ve had. I know there are plenty of one of kind restaurants out there than easily top Filibertos but for a fairly cheap meal this is a good place to hit. They serve breakfast platters and breakfast burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, tortas, and the greatest food on the menu…burritos! They are huge, about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide. The cheapest is the bean burrito which costs a mere $2. A huge shrimp burrito is under $5 and they don’t cheat you on the shrimp, they are a good size and lots of it. They also specialize in a lot of combination plates that are brimming with food and sides like refried beans with melted cheese and rice. They also have a little salsa bar which you can stock up with as much as you want. One of my favorite meals is the Super Nacho meal. It costs around $7 and believe me its worth it and you’ll want to share it with a couple friends.

This is the slogan for Phoenix College and I've taken classes there for 4 semesters after this fall. The slogan speaks the truth because it offers many career opportunities that will help you build a solid foundation for future universities you might want to attend or if you want to jump right into the job market. The degree I’ve been pursuing is Associate’s in Food Service Administration and I’m almost done. I didn’t take all my required courses at Phoenix College but I have had the best experience at this college with the teachers and classes. At PC I’ve taken a variety of courses such as culinary, music, biology, and accounting and they all been a great experience for me. It’s also fairly easy to find where you need to go on the campus. They even have many Internet courses you can take yet if you can go to the campus I think you get more out of the course. My only complaint is when you register you can’t sign up on their website or call in for certain courses for some reason…you have to do a person to person sign up.

Burton Barr Library is located in the central downtown area of Phoenix. I'm from the Chicago suburbs and went to my local library there and thought that was big. This library is immense! I've only dabbled a little into what they have available there. There is 280,000 square feet of it at 5 stories...now that's a lot of books! Well, the great thing is that there are more than books. Among the extras at this library that has been at this site for a little more than 10 years is the following:
-10,000 foot Children's Section with a story room
- A Special Needs Center with adapted computer equipment
- Ongoing events and exhibits
- Wireless Internet access for your notebook, laptop or PDA
- Arizona room on the 4th floor which contains a collection of books, maps and other materials reflecting the heritage, lifestyle and geography of the Southwest desert from prehistoric times to modern day.
- A great website! www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org tells you all about the great things at this library. You can check out what books are available at the library right from your own computer and put it on hold.
And last but not least, I frequent the 5th floor the most and they have a spectacular view of the city from there.

About a year ago a Bookmans opened up a couple miles away from where I live. If you hate borrowing books from the library yet you still hate paying full price for a book this is a great store to go to. Not every book will be there but there is a heck of a selection. This is the wasteful spender in me talking, but it's a great store to browse and just see what you can find. Other than books in the store they have a used magazine section, a music and electronics section and a kids corner than has used toys and games. It's too tempting to buy something every time I go so I try to avoid it as much as possible. LOL You can also sell any of these things at the store...this is based on supply, demand and condition, of course.
