Everyone says it; you can’t go wrong with Wong’s Wok. Is it the absolutely best authentic Chinese out there? Nah, but it is miles ahead of the stuff they serve at Pick-Up Stix. This is decent take out Chinese – though they have a large dining room if you wanted to eat there. All the normal stuff on the menu and a couple of curries. Yum!

The best reason to go to Roppongi is for their half priced tapas menu – every day from 4pm to 6pm. Enjoy culinary delights such as their signature crab stack, seared ahi tuna, pan seared sea scallops and so on. Around 20 in all. All half priced. The only caveat, the drinks are tripled in price – kidding! These are all appetizer sized portions, best for 2 to share, though you could share on plate among up to 4 people. You could make a great meal out of just these (order 2 or 3 per person.)

Ah, George’s at the Cove. A real destination fine dining restaurant for special occasions, locals and tourists alike – yet, most entrees are close to (and over) 30 bucks. But you’ll get some amazing food and excellent service.
If you are on a budget, consider the Ocean Terrance for patio dining. Lunch time gets you a variety of items like salads, sandwiches (and fish tacos – Yum!) all around 10 bucks, dinner on the patio keeps the prices under 20 per entrée.

This is quite a find in a strip mall area off of Scripps Poway Parkway. Nice space, plus a large patio. Mostly Mediterranean cuisine so you get a mix of Greek and Italian. I’ve always had good meals here. And a good value too. Dinner entrees are right around 15 bucks each, or a buck or two higher or lower. Fried calamari steak topped with sautéed mussels in saffron cream is a tasty choice. They have a couple of salmon entrees and a meat on a skewer (again several choices) is also popular. Pastas and sandwiches rule the day for lunch.
Check their website for a coupon for free dessert (with entrée purchase) good on weeknights (Tues., Wed., and Thurs.)

Great setting, on the top level of the Del Mar Plaza this place has a "block away from the ocean" type ocean view. The outdoor patio (covered) is as large as the indoor dining room. Dinner for two can easily hit $100+, lunch of course cheaper. Mostly seafood options here as you might expect and that is your best bet. It tends to get busy and loud at peak times.
Also, for casual, outdoor breakfast or lunch, Pacifica Breeze Cafe (underneath Pacifica Del Mar), has great muffins, waffles, sandwiches, salads, etc.

Another restaurant in the Sorrento Valley Food Court at Scranton and Mira Mesa just off the 805. Well, not a restaurant, but one of many counters where office workers can order lunch and either eat at one of the indoor or outdoor tables or scamper back to your office and gobble it down at your desk. Popular choice here is the plate lunch or island grinds: salad, macaroni salad, a couple of lumpias, rice and your choice of things like hibachi chicken, coconut shrimp, kalua pig, short ribs...and so on. Up to 3 choices! And it still is under 10 bucks!

This place has been around for ages. Entrees include favorites Firecracker Seared Ahi, Salmon Wellington and Chicken Portuguese plus all your Hawaiian and Polynesian yummies. And most are just under $20 and that includes a house salad AND a bowl of soup not too mention a wall of windows that looks over the water, and a view in the distance of the downtown skyline.
It's a good place to go before a Humphrey's concert - eat and drink here, and (safely) stumble across the street the your show. (They make a strong Mai Tai!)
Sidenote: My wife did mention a slight musty/mildew smell here that I didn't notice.

Mostly for office worker lunches only, but open from 8am to 3pm, they do also serve breakfast all day. The basic menu is all about the Chicago style hot dog. But the menu goes far beyond that. I always get the Italian Beef and Sausage Combo sandwich (yum!) at Busters. It will fill you up!
This place is located in the Sorrento Food Court with 10 other order and go places, just off of 805 at Mira Mesa.

Go there hungry! Or even starving to death because everything is served in huge portions! They are best known for breakfast (with long lines on weekends), but are open all day for lunch and dinner too. Typical menu might be the Sage Fried Chicken Benedict with spinach, bacon, tomatoes, cheese, scrambled eggs and a spicy cream sauce. YUM! Or how about a hash special of roast beef, mushrooms, peppers, and onions? Double YUM! Hash House A-YUM-YUM
