Chicane prides themselves as the best Mustang tuners around. Its hard to find reason to disbelieve them in that regard. The first thing you'll notice when you drive up is a parking lot full of sick 1980+ mustangs. From installing a supercharger to changing gears and spedo settings chicane does it all. Their attention to detail is easy to see--they have a work floor that I wouldn't hesitate to eat off of. They may not be the cheapest, but they know exactly what they are doing. Don't go anywhere else.

If you drive a Toyota, Mazda, or Honda this is the mechanic for you. I never as a rule take my car to the dealer, but finding a good mechanic can be tricky. Located right off Lomita Boulevard Japanese Car Clinic is the place to go for everything from timing belt replacements, to finding out what that noise is coming from the back tire. This place does quality work, gives a good price, and stands by their job. I can't stress that enough, if they fix it, it's FIXED!

Doctor Jansen has been my dog's vet for the past 8 years. A little over 6 years ago he saved his life, and ever since I've continued going to this guy. He's straightforward, doesn't pressure you into anything, and takes care of the animal as if it was his own. He also has great deals on vaccinations as well as pills and meds. My dog will be 15 this December, still running and jumping and thats thanks to this vet for sure.

I haven't found a better park in the south bay area. If you're an east coast transplant, like myself then you might enjoy this park as well. Outside there are baseball diamonds, a skate park, and six half court/full court basketball hoops. The real gem of the park however is the inside. For $5 you gain access to their weight room, the indoor gym, an indoor practice gym, and--racquetball courts! Thats right, indoor, air conditioned racquetball in the south bay and it doesn't mean joining a crazy country club. They offer yearly rates as well, if you'd like to join for a longer term, but I find the $5 per time very reasonable.

I love the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific! I stumbled on this place on accident, and boy am I glad I did. The aquarium has had some tough times lately, but it should be checked out. If you're fascinated by undersea life, or just enjoy a relaxing walk that can transport you away from the craziness of the Los Angeles area, the Aquarium of the Pacific is the place for you. Check out the big tank, spend at least a half hour, and you'll be amazed at what you see. Close to dozens of restaurants if you want to make a night of it, or are there on a date.

I hate having my car washed at a. I don't trust them. Call it bad luck in the past, but I've had scratches appear, money disappear, and I've paid for washes which left my car less than clean. None of this happens at Madrona Car Wash. This place is a class act. Its attached to a Chevron station, and I swear the does more business than the pumps. They clean the car quickly using the automated machine and then follow up by hand to make sure they didn't miss a spot. Cars stay clean a long time, and the price isn't too bad either. Check for early bird specials/coupons.

Pricing is at their discretion. What this means is that nothing has a price on it. You get the price they feel like giving you. While they may do decent work, their sod selection is again, selectively priced. The whole thing made me feel like i was being ripped off. While They have a large selection of plants, they often do not know where they are, which meant I had to spend time looking in areas of their nursery for no reason at all. In a city as big as this one I can't recommend this nursery when there are so many better ones out there.

With a constantly revolving selection of art and exhibits the Getty amazed me on my first visit. Not only can you see the ocean from some parts, and the city from others, the place has sprawling lawns to sit down and eat lunch on, gardens to explore, and helpful guides. Great place for a date on a lazy Monday in Los Angeles. Only problem is getting there as its location means driving the dreaded 405 freeway. Parking is ample and was $7 at the time I went. The Museum has no entrance fee.

What if I told you that for $7 you could see two amazing movies in one afternoon/evening? The Beverly is the place for the kind of movies they don't make anymore. Their double features range from the old and classic (Maltese Falcon/Casablanca) to the quirky (Kung Fu Hustle/Enter the Dragon). Check their website for upcoming flicks and be prepared for an older theatre experience. There is no THX audio, no huge IMAX screen. Just good movies, good popcorn, and a nice atmosphere. Be warned: Parking can be tricky, look at all the signs and know that if you're very close to the theatre you're probably going to get towed/ticketed.
