This week-long "day camp" at Alvin Community College is great. Geared toward children up to 6th grade, you select 4 different classes for your child to attend. The program is a week long, and you have a choice of two different weeks. One of the better ones for older kids is the pottery class. It's awesome! But you have to hurry because this class is very limited and it's on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are looking for someting to help keep your child busy this summer, check this program out.

Wow! We were so happy when one of these opened in Houston and even happier when one opened by Baybrook Mall! Freebirds is a place where you go in and begin by selecting a tortilla. From there you tell your builder what to add to your burrito. From meats, to cheeses, to beans and rice, to veggies and sour cream, the possibilities are endless! And the outcome is always delicious! If you are really, really hungry, try the monster size. My husband did once, and he paid for it. I don't think he'll do it again. It's HUGE!!!!
Also for fun, take your foil and make something out of it. You can leave it on display in the restaurant. Fun!

Panera is a delicious place! If you are in the mood for soup, salad, or sandwiches, it's a perfect dining place. The food is so fresh and breads are baked daily. Sometimes I just stop in to buy a loaf of Rosemary Onion bread to have with dinner. You have the option of ordering a "You Pick Two" where you can have your choice of any two: soup, salad, or 1/2 sandwich. One interesting thing for anyone who suffers from food allergies, this is one of the best places! If you ask for the information, they have ingredient lists for every item they sell. They will give you this large book to look at so you can see for yourself what items you can have. If you have or your child has food allergies, you know what I'm talking about here. It was refreshing to have it all listed out for you.

I know most women shopping for sizes larger than 14 have heard of Lane Bryant, but I only recently learned about Avenue. They have really cute clothes. They have everything from very casual to more sophisticated business and dressy looks. The clothes are more reasonably priced in my opinion. Also if you sign up for their credit card, they give you a little "passport of savings" and there are so many good deals in there. Then you'll constantly receive 20% and 30% off coupons that you can use on any regular priced or clearance item in the store. I hardly every have to buy anything full price because there is hardly a shortage of coupons. If you are a plus sized woman, you'll love this store. Cute styles and even a line of shoes.

Alvin--This place doesn't look like much, but looks are deceiving. For under $10, you can get a grilled seafood meal, complete with grilled veggies, dirty rice, and a salad. It's delicious! The fried shrimp platter has been recommended to me, but I haven't tried it. I does look really good though. The shrimps are large, and everything looks fresh. I wasn't as impressed by the one in Pearland, but I frequent this one at least once a month. They also have gumbo and different mixed platters.

Located in the UT Physicians building, Dr. Donald Parks deals mostly with trauma patients and reconstructive surgery. The staff in this office was so friendly and helpful. The doctor is very warm and approachable; in fact, every one in this office will make you feel comfortable and like a person, not a patient. The waiting time is never outrageous and the doctor even seems to be familiar with his schedule enough to recommend a time for you to schedule a follow up. While elective cosmetic surgery doesn't seem to be this office's specialty, if you know someone in need of serious help, give them this office's number.

Accessories are also available. They usually have one or two sales racks where you can find some really cute items for a really great price. Even if the item you want isn't on the sale rack, the prices are really quite reasonable. If you like stores like Charlotte Russe (sp?), you should give this local shop a try. This coffee shop is kind of hidden. I got the chance to enjoy it while buying organic produce at the Central City Co-Op. They serve delicious coffee and coffee drinks and offer even a larger variety than your more popular coffee chains. You can also buy organic coffee beans by the pound. We took the Ethiopian coffee home and enjoyed it while relaxing on weekend mornings. Wireless service is offered and there is a small courtyard to sit outside. Quiet and secluded, this is a great place for true coffee lovers.

I started using Kroger Pharmacy (by Barry Rose) because of a coupon, and I keep going back because the service is wonderful. The pharmacist is so nice, and I have never seen her without a smile on her face. Prescriptions are filled fast and communication is excellent. Any questions you have about your prescription are answered or looked up if they are not sure.
The hours are pretty good, too. The exception is Sunday when they close at 6. Just don't forget if you need your meds on a Sunday.
